I suppose it was your ridiculous “ utterly useless “ remark that promoted a response. Casemiro is still a class act. I wouldn’t mind a few utterly useless players at our club. 😂

Dropping into centre back was not an issue for him and Ten Haag knew that. He knows a bit more than we do.

I’d suggest that you re-read your original post.

You seemed confused and couldn’t understand why Casemiro was playing in defence and it was a dig at Ten Haag too. I’ve merely explained to you that Casemiro would easily adapt to that position having spent most of his career in a holding / deep midfield area. With his ability, experience and football brain it would have been a piece of cake albeit there was a momentary lapse in concentration where he became casual and it was costly.

You do know that players can adapt and are capable of different things on a pitch especially world class footballers. Although possibly not utterly useless ones.

Utterly useless ?

He’s been one of the best defensive midfield players in the game and with over 70 caps for Brazil he’s more than capable of dropping into a defensive role which for him would be like shelling peas. For the Arsenal goal today he was too casual. Roy Keane referred to it as laziness. It was not laziness but certainly he needed to be more alert to the dangers around him.

At 32 he’s not the player he was but he was world class and still good enough to play for Manchester United.

Another truth is that Gyokores wasn’t very good for us. I watched him play several times. He didn’t seem to want to be here. No goals scored in his 11 league appearances is hardly an indication that he deserved more games. He seems to have matured and is doing well now but you could certainly understand why he was not getting regular games at Swansea (or Brighton where he didn’t start one league game. )

Could Swansea buy Rushworth?
at 20:52 2 May 2024

If he returns and it’s highly unlikely there’ll be a whole host of other more influential reasons than him enjoying the work of a goalkeeping coach that’s for sure. It’s almost an irrelevance in the scheme of things.

Not sure what Swansea under 21s beating Barry a few years ago has to do with the subject 😂

You have a strange habit of clouding the waters to confuse things. Swansea under 21s beat Briton Ferry, a decent Welsh league club this season also 6-1 in a Cup comp. That May or not be of interest and relevance to you.

For me it showed the vast difference in quality.

It’s why Merthyr are right to continue in their quest to (try to)move up the English pyramid. The potential for getting into league 2 and beyond is huge. It’s unlikely to happen but they can dream. Money talks and no one knows what the future holds…

I’ve just read that the average annual salary of the 600 plus championship players this season is a whopping £655,000. 😫

Swansea annual wage bill is now £12.27m. Which puts us in 14th place in the division, way behind Leicester £60m Southampton £40m and Leeds £39m. Andy is currently on £140,000 a week. £20,000 a day. Let that sink in for a moment. What kind of works are we living in?

I’m unsure what the answer is apart from salary capping? I wouldn’t like to see players going back to earning £450 a week but there needs to be a happy medium somewhere surely. They aren’t worth that sort of money. No one is.

He's a player with ability and flair undoubtedly but he needs to be more consistent. He can be almost anonymous at times but is certainly capable of making an impact. He’s a creative skilful player but needs to produce on a more regular basis but that would come with a good run in the team. It’s a catch 22 situation at the moment.

Id strongly disagree as do the majority of Merthyr fans

With crowds up to 1500 this season things are on the up. Run by the Supporters Trust I believe so they will need investment. Only two years ago they made the FA Cup Round one proper. They’ve had good times and they can get them back but not in the welsh league which itself is improving as well.

Nonsense. They would be foolish to give up their place and status in the English FA pyramid system. They have high travel costs and expenses of course but are in the verge of finding a way to get back to Conference level and then from there it’ll take a large injection of money undoubtedly.

You just need to take a look at what Newport have done with their re-emergence over the past few years. I applaud Merthyr for standing their ground and wish them well in their efforts to make progress. Unless there comes a time when welsh clubs are forced to play in welsh leagues they must stay where they are. In the same way that Swansea Wrexham etc need to. Look at Wrexham now. Some were advocating that they should relinquish their English FA status a few years ago…

Leighton James passes away
at 09:00 20 Apr 2024

A mercurial talent. A wing wizard. Alongside R James and Curtis my favourite footballer.

My best moment watching him play was in May 1981 at Preston. Standing in line with the edge of the Preston penalty box when James scored our second goal I think it was. A stunning 25 yarder when he cut in from the left onto his right foot.

I last spoke to him last year at Pontarddulais CC. Loved an argument. Spoke his mind. You knew where you were with him. Sad indeed that he’s gone. ❤️

Welsh Cup Final
at 10:06 19 Apr 2024

The FAW Chief Exec Noel Mooney is doing a fine job to be fair. Much of the financial windfall from Wales qualification for the World Cup Finals ( est £10m ) has been allowed to filter through to the clubs at all levels in the form of grant applications which has benefitted so many clubs in terms of allowing them to improve their grounds and facilities etc

As for layers of managers I’m not sure where you get that information from?

Of course with our best clubs in Wales playing in England it restricts certain development eg the Welsh Cup and our chances in Europe but overall the FAW is doing a good job. Holding that final in Newport does seem strange but the venue was probably chosen early in the season.

Certain players suit certain clubs. He’s not your typical Stoke player. A bit too cultured skilful and thoughtful for Stoke is Cundle. He needs a new club.

You need to familiarise yourself with the Ten Commandments the last one of which was :

Role of Fullbacks.
at 23:05 10 Apr 2024

The role of the modern full back involves getting forward as much as possible to assist attacking options. This is not the 1970,s.

Key and Tymon perform the role well albeit both could be more consistent. You were suggesting that our full back was causing problems by getting forward which quite clearly wasn’t the case.

Keys goal tonight underlined the importance of getting full backs high up the pitch. His run wasn’t tracked by Stoke either.

Anyway very good win tonight. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You’re doing your best to find a fault with something when it doesn’t exist. I’d prefer to go along with the likes of Klopp and Guardiola.

Just take a look at the best clubs in world football and how they play.

Manchester City and Liverpool to name two of the best

Full backs getting forward whenever they can. Overlapping and cutting inside to offer support. It’s how you maximise the potential of your players. The intention is to create an over load whereby your team outnumber the opponent in that area of the pitch. Or try to.

By the way both Bidwell and Manning are both equally very good at getting forward. You are looking for things that aren’t there.

You’re looking for something that’s not there. Good, fit, quick full backs will get forward at every opportunity to support their team-mate on that side of the pitch. To help try to create an over load. You seem to be looking for a stick to beat someone with. You're way wide of the mark.
