Odds for 1975/76 season.
at 10:16 10 May 2024

From memory I had £5 at 40/1, a huge bet for then.

It may be that I'm guilty of having exagerated the odds over the years though! Perhaps the size of the bet as well!

Probably the wrong place to post this, but the club have announced that Aaron Drewe is leaving. No surprise there!

Good luck Aaron.

Championship Playoffs - who's going up?
at 09:46 9 May 2024

I'm going for the Russell Martin Challenge Cup Final. Southampton against Norwich.

I know he comes across as arrogant as a manager, but he was the one player at Norwich that I didn't mind!

Sorry Hants. My original post is now edited!

It was the 79/80 season Allen & Goddard scored 44 goals between them. I was only a decade out!

Both times Hants! It takes somebody special to stop Harold being, in my view, our most despicable manager!

The last game of the 78/79 season will always remain with me. I was in the School End with my wife (Ipswich supporter) & iother Ipswich fans that i drank with before Ipswich home midweek games.

I could just about handle relegation. I could just about handle being thrashed by Ipswich. What I STILL struggle with is the sympathy they all had for me when Docherty's appointment was announced!

The Coventry Conference – Report
at 10:29 6 May 2024

Thanks Clive.

I think you covered everything about this season, our manager & the clubs attitude (especially about end of season "dead rubbers") perfectly.

The comparison with the 06/07 season once again comes to the fore, but I'm sure we are in a far better place now than we were then.

I'm too bloody old to be getting excited about our future. But I am!

What! Again?

They've had two in my lifetime!

Not as many as Brighton though.

More to the point is to ask why Paal & Colback were static & allowing Allen six yards of free space.

He was also very brave and decisive when he picked up his inhury.

He has been going off in recent matches.

I suspect he has a niggle which wasn't worth risking.

He played very well apart from his distribution.

I thought Dixon-Bonner was quite good as well.

I can't stop myself laughing at Birmingham!

Not that it mattered, but bringing Armstrong on for Dixon-Bonner nearly cost us.

56 points! Who would have believed that was a possibility?

Walsh & Dixon-Bonner have been good. Paal & Willock have been poor.

Overall, a typical last game of the season match.

I could understand the sale of Clive Allen as the offer was too good to turn down. What STILL upsets me is then selling Paul Goddard! Both started the 79/80 season as teenagers & scored 44 league goals between them!

I knew a few Rangers fans who vowed never to go again after selling Rodney, but the truth was that he had stopped performing for us & we were unbeaten for the rest of the season. Bowles, Givens & Thomas replacing him was a masterstroke!

Venables falling out with Gregory & going to Barcelona is probably the worst moments in our history that I can recall. Appointing Docherty (twice), Redknapp & Mullery (in that order) are the closest I can come to.

I should know a lot better, but I share your enthusiasm for Marti!

On the one hand I remember how bad we've been in many last games of the season & that we won't turn up.

On the other hand I've stated a few times that this season has reminded me of the 06/07 season. That year we won at home to Preston, away at Leicester & Coventry.

Can we do that again?

Non-QPR: Come On Ipswich!
at 09:34 4 May 2024

Since moving to Ipswich in '74 there have not been too many times that I've wanted Ipswich to win, but today I definitely do!

However, I was at Wembley in '78, St. Etienne & Amsterdam in '81, but today might top all of those!

The season that was - Preview
at 22:20 3 May 2024

Thanks Clive.

Best wishes to all of you that will be at Coventry tomorrow. I hope the team give you (and us at home) a performance, but I've seen too many of these last matches to take that for granted. I'm still bitter about the visit to Norwich in Holloway's second spell!

I also understand that it will be difficult for the players to reach the levels of the last two matches as safety has been achieved. Hopefully they will play, but I won't be slagging them off if they are not at their best.

Thank you Clive for all the previews & thank you to all of our fans for the superb support that they have given this season.

Not any of the Ipswich supporters that I know!

And having lived there since 1974, I know quite a few!
