![]() Wednesday, 7th Aug 2013 10:00 As has been well documented in the press AFC Totton like many non league football clubs have been experiencing money worries, if you have some spare time on Sunday pop down and help them out. In many respects the meteoric rise of AFC Totton in recent years can be compared to that of Saints, a Wembley appearance back in 2007, losing to Truro in the FA Vase followed by several promotions and a move to a new ground in which they start this season only three steps in the football pyramid down from Portsmouth, sadly though like Pompey they have suffred money troubles due to a variety of reasons. Therefore with their future uncertain the supporters are getting together in a series of fund raising events to bring in money to enable the club to keep going whilst a longer term solution is found. One of these occurs on this Sunday 11th August when the 2007 FA Vase final squad will reconvene to take on a 2013 Totton XI featuring a few guests along the way. Kick off is at the Testwood Stadium in Totton at Noon and is a bargain £5 for adults and only £1 for kids.
But its more than just a football match, its a family funday as well and there's plenty to keep everyone entertained, including bouncy castles etc for the kids as well as other attractions and food stalls so no one goes hungry, not to mention the clubhouse and bar where you can enjoy a pint or two and watch the live games on TV. But the fund raising doesn't stop there, after the game there will be an auction as well as a raffle and for something different a chance to take penalties on the pitch at half time, ok it isn't Wembley but its still a very good non league ground and a treat for young kids to get the chance to take a penalty on. But perhaps the best fund raising idea is the chance for someone to actually play for Totton in the match itself, the winner of the bidding will be a full member of the Totton team including all the pre match warm ups and dressing room team talks, will sit on the bench and when on the pitch will Captain the team and be interviewed afterwards to appear on the Totton website. Bidding for this closes on Friday at 9pm and the highest bid currently stands at £120, so is affordable for someone who perhaps would like to not only help the Stags but have a unique day in doing so. You can e mail your bid to info@afctotton.com Football at grass roots level is struggling as the Premier League is pushed forward as the only place to be, here is a chance to give something back, no matter how small, so why not pop along on Sunday and help AFC Totton.
