Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City can evoke the spirit of their dramatic 2012 Premier League title triumph against Barcelona after insisting “nothing is better than chasing a lost cause”. Pellegrini’s men will go on the attack in a bid to produce a miracle comeback tonight in this Champions League last 16 showdown.

“I’m very excited by this,” Kompany said. “The whole team is.Nothing is better than chasing a lost cause. We will try to make the best out of it, but the motivation and the belief is there. “It is one of those games when everyone has to be at their best, but we have done it before."
“Football is made of nights like this. Emotionally, it is a tough ask, but you won’t beat how we defeated QPR and if anything gives you belief on chasing lost causes it should be that. Our team is stronger now than it was then and we are here to try to have one of those great nights.”

Kompany also insists City's strikers will show their class and plunder the goals needed to produce a major shock.

He said: “I’m just really happy they’re on my side to be honest."

“I don’t like to say we’re not scoring because strikers aren’t on form or conceding because the defenders aren’t defending."

“I like to focus on our strikers, because I know that if they score, we’ll have a chance looking at the strikers we have Aguero, Negredo and Dzeko."

“That’s what I want to focus on. We have firepower up front so if everything goes well we know we’re capable of hurting Barcelona."

“We were scoring more earlier in season because we were playing better.

“We just want to get the lead in the game and I’m convinced the dynamics of the game will change if that happens.
