Fabianski Hails Defensive Duo

Lucasz Fabianski kept thirteen Premier League clean sheets in the season just passed and he puts some of that success down to the central defensive partnership that played in front of him for much of the season.

Fabianski took three awards at the recent player of the season dinner at the Liberty Stadium including the valued players' player of the year award but he has today paid tribute to the form of his captain Ashley Williams and Federico Fernandez who joined the Swans last summer.

The Pole's form was a major reason behind the Swans record breaking season and he should be rightly proud of everything that he achieved during his first season at the Liberty Stadium that resulted in talks of a new contract to try and fend off the inevitable interest that such an incredible season brings.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Fabianski though spoke of the two central defenders "I think they are right up there with the best defensive pairings in the Premier League, it has been a pleasure to play with them this season

"I appreciate the way Ash treated me from the very first day. I know he had a good relationship with Michel in the past and it is different to have a new goalkeeper behind you, but we quickly found a good way of communicating and you could see that on the pitch.

"Federico was coming into a completely different league and did not speak much English, but you could see him growing game by game and this relationship had turned into one of the best defences we have in the Premier League.

"The back four, or the defensive part of our game, has been massive for us."
