Two home wins unlikely for Pompey? Maybe, but it's an aim
Two home wins unlikely for Pompey? Maybe, but it's an aim

Paul Cook said after the win at Bristol Rovers that Pompey would not win both the home games that follow the trip west this week.

Nonetheless he will be doing his best to set up his squad to try to do just that, and build on a victory that took the Blues top of League Two for the first time.

Exeter are at Fratton on Tuesday night and Yeovil follow suit on Saturday, and Cook believes the nature of football is his side are unlikely to win both games and therefore make it three wins in eight days.

But he is happy with the way they played in Bristol and hopes for that trend to continue this week.

He told the Pompey website: 'Saturday was probably the nearest we’ve come to a balanced team performance this season. We had a good attacking threat combined with a defensive stability, although it was a bit disappointing that we didn’t score more goals.

'Now we need to bring all the elements of our recent performances into one game. We’ve offered something in each of them — we took control of the second half at Oxford and were excellent in the first half at Bristol Rovers.

'There have been those glimpses of our team starting to take shape and hopefully we’ll see that across 90 minutes soon. That’s what we’re all looking for and if it happens against Exeter, then great. But if not, then we’ll just keep working towards that goal.'
