Josh Sims Tipped For New York Loan Move

Josh Sims is rumoured to be joining MLS side New York Red Bulls on loan, but there is some confusion as to how long the loan spell will be.

The rumour mill is suggesting that Josh Sims will join New York Red Bulls on loan, but the question is how long that loan will be for, itis suggested that it will be for the rest of the season, but the MLS is due to finish it's regular season on October 6th, although with play offs and the MLS Cup final it could stretch till November 10th.

Here lies the rub, with that being the case and the 2020 season not starting until March 2020, it does not seem to make sense to loan Sims for a whole English season which would effectively see him unable to play a game for four months perhaps five.

So it seems that this could perhaps be a short term loan allowing Sims to get in some game time till the end of the MLS season and then return to St Mary's in October/November and be available for selection.

The arrival of Moussa Djenepo as well as the potential reintegration of Sofiane Boufal into the squad has pushed Sims down the pecking order, however loaning Sims to New York Red Bulls would give him some experience but allow him to return to Saints when the loan ends, although it is still unclear if he would be allowed to play again in October or have to wait till January

lemmsy added 07:52 - Aug 7 A short term loan is probably the best for all concerned. Sims is at the age where he needs games & with the new arrivals heâ€™s dropped down the pecking order.personally I donâ€™t think heâ€™s quite good enough at top level but would be happy to be proved wrong.

I thought when Sims did play last season, he made a bit of a difference.

People talk about the Newcastle away game, but there were a whole raft of players who did not play well that day, most experienced and looked like they could not be ar*ed. Bertrand was one for a start as he made no effort to track back etc and then did the same away to West Ham. It sometimes feels like players trying to break through have no room for error, nerves or a bad day whereas others, more experienced, seemed to be allowed a long rope for a leeway.

As much as i like his enthusiasm there is nothing to suggest to me that Sims is going to reach regular first team selection. Not only would a loan move be beneficial for him but a loan with an option to buy in November would bring in some funds to spend in January if the need arises. I suspect that if he wasn't "one of our own" he'd be receiving the negative response currently levelled at some of our expensive "failures".

I don+ t like this. HeÂ´s one of the best of our own...; I had hoped he would get the chance repeatedly this season, because I so fondly remember his influence, when he came on the pitch in the second half against Spurs at Saint MaryÂ´s, and Saints came from behind and won 2-1. His blistering pace made a huge positive difference.
I also remember his great ball carrying at Anfield from deep in his own half to the edge of Liverpools penalty area before passing to Long, who scored and won the League Cup semi final second leg for us a couple of seasons ago.
Good luck to him and wellcome back again - if he leaves.
