Media Reports Sat Southampton Failed In Second Attempt To Appoint Manager
Tuesday, 14th Feb 2023 15:18 Reports in Italy are saying that Saints tried to get a certain manager back in November when they were looking to replace Ralph Hasenhuttl, they say they have tried again in the past few days and have yet again been knocked back.
With Jesse Marsch looking more and more likely to be the latest man into the St Mary's hot seat , it seems he was not the club's first choice for the job, either back in November when Nathan Jones was appointed and indeed now after the Welshman was sacked on Sunday.
The man in question according to Italian media outlets is Torino manager, Ivan Juric.
They say that Saints have again been knocking at his door but have been rebuffed in their attempts.
The problem that Saints have now in attracting a manager is that with only 16 games left it is far from certain what division that the club will be in next season, it is a big risk for someone like Juric who is manging in Serie A to leave that job and then find himself managing in the 2nd tier of English football next season.
Back in November that was not so much of a risk, but with Jones winning just once and losing 7 of the 8 Premier League games he presided over, ensuring safety is a lot more difficult.
If he had come in November then he would have had a good chance of leading us into mid table safety now we are playing catch up.
The only glimpse of hope is despite losing all those games, we are still not cast adrift at the bottom, hopefully a new man can come in and give us that boost that could see us go on a surging run to safety.

What I can’t get my head around is the amount of quality managers out there that want the job so how the hell did we end up with NJ?… I’d like Gerrard or Rooney & really not sure about Jesse March who is like Ralph but not as good imho |  | |

The two clear positives are firstly, that we have now got rid of Jones and secondly, we have several new players who look really promising. If Ralf hadn't had to rely on the Adams and Armstrong 'strike force' (?) things might have been so differen't. The strengthened squad and a positive/capable new manager has got to be good. If Marsch, I hope he can hit the ground running. He'll need to! | | |

They need to get the choice right this time and Marsch is not the one if he aint good enough for Leeds he aint good enough for us.A big name like Rooney would inspire the young

Absolutely NOT Rooney or Lampard, just look at their records to date. I'm not convinced Marsch is the man but I'd take him over those two. | | |

I'm neither warm or cold on Jesse M. I like his passion and he has a good record with working with young players as I understand it. His technical area behavior - some times almost arrogant - worries me a little, but at the same time, if he can galvanize our strengthened squad and find our best 11 quickly and get points on the board with whatever behavior, I'll be happy.
Jones was a huge risk and big mistake in hindsight.
What a strange season this has been - buying so many youngsters in the summer but no class striker which we needed the most, -> then we sack RH and get Nathan Jones in and use a January Saints record fortune, splashing the cash, to get 2 exciting attacking players in (+ a championship right back for 750.000 pounds) + we recall Bednarek from loan in stead of Tella, who does so well in Burnley.
'Good' and 'bad' question marks all over the place.
Now, with 16 games back in the PL, bottom of the table, we are in a situation where we - with a far better squad than when the season took off - could be clever and lucky enough to sign up a new manager who will actually get us out of the bottom three with 48 points to play for.
Is that manager Jesse Marsch? I'm not saying he isn't. I hope he is, if we take him.
But what about Nigel Pearson?

Let's hope we can still turn this around in the PL and get as far as possible in the FA Cup.
If we could do a 2014/2015 Leicester City like relegation escape miracle, it would give me great happiness. With or without Nigel Pearson.

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t.
