Gillingham v. Leeds Preview
Gillingham v. Leeds Preview

The current Leeds side could become the first since the war to win eight league games in a row, and we go into the game with no new injury problems.

Seven different Leeds teams have won seven in a row, and before the present mob the last to achieve this feat was O’Leary’s side in 1999/2000, but the all time club record was set in 1931/32, when we won nine in a row. But despite the significance of the occasion, both Wise and Poyet are trying to treat it the same as any other game.

Poyet told the official site “We're just trying to take it game by game. It's going to be difficult to win every single game, although we hope! We're trying to keep everyone with their feet on the floor, because you never know when a difficult period will happen and you to be ready. It's going to be tough, we know that. You can feel from people talking that every single team is waiting to be the first one, not just to beat us, but to be the first to take points off us.That situation will get bigger and bigger”.

Alan Thompson will travel to Gillingham after recovering from a groin problem, so Wise will have to decide whether to change a winning team to include him, or whether to stick with Hughes and Douglas in the centre of midfield. At a guess, I think that Thompson will start the game on the bench, and come on once all the other players have got a bit worn out and his lack of pace won’t matter so much.

Jamie Clapham will also be available, as Wolves have agreed to extend his loan for another two months, which will take him up to the maximum period for an ‘emergency’ loan. He said today "I've enjoyed the month. When I came here I was looking forward to playing games and it's been good to be part of things. We've had a good start to the season and there's a real buzz around the place. We've done really well results-wise and everyone cannot wait for the next game to come around. The support has been great as well. The fans have really got behind us and there's a real feel-good feeling. I'm enjoying being part of what's happening here and I'm looking forward to the next couple of months now."

Gillingham are currently 20th in League One, and went down 4-0 in their last match against Nottingham Forest at the city ground last Saturday.  Manager Ronnie Jepson resigned two weeks ago after their disappointing start to the start to the season, and Mick Docherty and Iffy Onuora have taken temporary charge while the club looks for a new man to take over on a permanent basis. Their goalkeeper Simon Royce and striker Gary Mulligan could return from back and ankle injuries respectively. However, full-back Duncan Jupp remains sidelined with a groin problem. On-loan duo Adam Nowland and Chris Dickson, who joined on a month's loan last week from Preston North End and Charlton Athletic, are in-line to make their home debuts.

What other prediction can I make for tomorrow other than yet another Leeds win? Onwards and upwards!
