| Forum Reply | Interesting question, would you ever want Saints to lose a match? at 13:52 15 May 2024
I totally agree with your first paragraph, many people in football these days have grown up in a cocoon, shielded from the real world as they grew up in football club academies from an early age. However you would have thought that Postecoglou having managed Celtic for two years might have gained some insight having been involved with a few Old Firm games. |

It would have been a help, but West Brom only conceded 17 goals in 23 home matches, so they are very tight at the back. Away from home they are a different proposition, only won 6 games, drew 8 and lost 9, scored 32 and conceded 30, only Norwich in the top 10 had a worse away record |

Most of his career has been spent as a back up, it will be a good little earner for him sitting on the bench at Liverpool |

Yes but he has worked under Jones less at Charlton than he did at Saints, so not sure that genius is the word, more like dropping down 2 divisions |

You are right they had a lot of possession in the first10 minutes and went at us like a train, but we coped fairly well and they didn't create much, the only chance i thought they should have scored was the header saved by McCarthy, but bear in mind the stats from the game were very similar for both sides We had 64% possession they had 36% most in the first 10 minutes it felt. They had 14 shots we had 12, they got 2 attempts on target and we got 3, with 4 blocked shots for them and 3 for us, they missed 8 to our 6. |

Thierry Small was let go back in February with Saints agreeing to terminate his contract 4 months early to allow him to find another club as an out of contract player. He went to Charlton and has seemingly thrived there and now it is said that Spurs are monitoring his progress |

Im glad to see you can take some positives from a draw with a side who had the second best defensive record at home in the regular season and who had only been bettered by two other teams in the least number of home defeats |

Yes you are right, just as funny though was Pompey fans who certainly weren't magnificent once they got going the last time we played you, once we got the 4th they really got going, out of the exits |

If we count cup goals then that puts Elyounoussi just one goal behind Broja, give the level of esteem that Elyounoussi was held in Saints fans, that could put things in a little perspective. Personally I judge people on League games these days, not cup games that usually have weakened sides and sometimes like the Newport game that season see big scores |

1. The atmosphere created by the home supporters in the opening minutes was superb, definitely the best home support I have seen this season and perhaps the best that i can remember in recent years, we have to match that on Friday evening. 2. The Hawthorns must be one of the easiest ground to reach by road or train, it is right by the M5 and it has a train/tram service from Birmingham city centre only 150 metres from the ground itself. 3. Our fans were also magnificent once they got going 4. Our team has got it's mojo back. 5. My mouth is still burning from the Chicken Tikka I had in the Vine pub after the game |

I find it very interesting that some will glorify someone who spent a short time playing for us and then left without a second thought, indeed didn't actually do that much in the grand scheme of things. Yet honest players who play for us now are vilified, ridiculed and mocked despite giving a lot more commitment than Broja ever did. Broja only stopped scoring because we stopped playing to his strengths, perhaps we havent been playing to Mara's strengths, who knows. If we all put more effort into supporting the players we have instead of those that stayed for a short time and left, perhaps some of those players would play better, just a thought |

That season Che Adams got 1 more goal than Broja, yet never got any plaudits, we struggled to create chances and score that season. Im surprised that anyone could overate Thierry Small given that he made just one first team appearance that season, the first half against Coventry in the FA Cup |

Im sorry but I dont think RH threw Broja under the bus, in the second half of the season he always had a striker up there with him, usually Che Adams. Im surprised that you say Che Adams has done little, he has hit 15 League goals only 8 players in the Championship have hit more and 3 of them have hit only 1 more. Yes there are times when he should have scored and didn't but overall I think he has done a decent job. |
