100% agree. She actually commentated on the game, hadn't rehearsed a stupid monologue or hilarious puns, just told us who's who and what was happening. Compared to the drivel of Matterface, more please. |

I think it's different now - winning the game but going slow is one thing, not trying to win a game is not very Oz-like, plus they would surely rather England gets through than they lose to an associate nation, come second and go in a group with India (I think). |

Well done, I say. Now run rate completely irrelevant which is quite an achievement. Beat Namibia and as long as Oz beat Scot and no rain..... |

Thanks - I see this as the first real test of Nourry. Sure if a Premier League or massive club comes in for him then no-one can do much about that. But if he goes to Sunderland or similar, then fingers have to be pointed at Nourry, because I don't think he would go there if he was confident in what our plans were going forward. |

I don't like the sound of that, Clive. Is that inside info as to his character or just worldly-wise opinion? I know these days it is tough to keep such types but Ipswich and it seems Sheff Wed are managing it.... |

I would be devastated, but the only way to look at it is that if he does jump ship so early, especially to a Championship team, then he is not half the man (and won't be half the manager) that we think he is. He will know all about El Tel's route from QPR to Barcelona. Remind him of it, I would settle for that :-) |

Presuming England win their next two handsomely, it's all about who bats first in Scot v Australia. Australia will still want to win the game of course, so batting first they can't play around with it. If they bat second, they are of course going to know how many balls to take in order to knock us out. As they should, that isn't match fixing or spirit of cricket rubbish, it is simply good tournament play. Because of this, surely both Scotland and Australia will want Australia to bat second, so really England are absolute toast unless they can do something ridiculous with the net run rate. As I said on the cricket thread, I don't trust either Buttler or Mott to work out the best way to do that. |

Unless they hold back certain tickets from season ticket sales, if I am reading the seat map right there are fewer than 90 tickets left in the entire Loft Safe Standing. Which is great, but slightly aware that there will be little chance for others / walk ups to experience it on a random basis and I am sure this was helpful last season in bringing a few more on board. I am wary of rehashing the old debate, but the argument to extend it is growing in my mind. Fair play to the flags guys for helping, too, and excellent that sales are up generally, of course. |

Never quite got the desire personally to meet your heroes. I want them to volley one in the top corner in the last minute, not to be erudite company for an evening. Pretty sure the two things rarely go hand in hand anyway. And call me an absolute dinosaur, but pre-scripted "banter" is the worst thing in the universe. |

Well you've got to hand it to Scotland, slaughtering Oman and making sure their NRR becomes very decent. I can't see how England get out of this. Aus v Scotland is last, so if Aus bat second they will know, presuming we beat Oman and Namibia, just how many balls to take in order to knock us out. Would be cold....but why not? Won't be same scenario if they bat first as they will still want to win to top group. If I was Scotland, definitely bat first! Only way is to go miles past Scotland run rate, but that will be very tough. Oh dear. [Post edited 9 Jun 21:09]

Amen to every single word of that, sir. |

That's true. I think Rob Key said it was a very difficult job to leave as you can have your opinions and it doesn't really matter if you are right or not. Key wanted to prove if he was (starting to look a little dodgy!). Morgan has always been a leader though, an inspiration. I hope we at least try. |

It's shocking from Mott, totally out of his depth and Buttler just can't seem to make any good decisions. Now back to the 90s one day scenario, sweating about net run rate and hoping the Aussies don't deliberately play slowly against Scotland to knock us out. To be honest I don't care because we will get stuffed in the final stages anyway. Even worse, the debate seems to be that Topley (bang average at best) would be our saviour. I am sure he will be against Namibia and Oman but then watch him disappear with the rest against a good side. How has Mott not moved this team forward? Why are past-it players like Moeen, Bairstow, Jordan still in the side? Why is it still a batting line up of entirely big hitters who seem unable to construct a chase, unless it is six after six? Why are we relying on a guy as our main bowler who has bowled about 20 overs in the last 3 years? Mott out, Buttler removed as skipper, Eoin Morgan running the whole white ball show. |

Great advice - I was going to make the same point that a case study really advances if you can get quotes from people involved. Worth trying people like Beard, Fernandes, Hoos - most people are actually nice and try to help and it would really move your project on, especially as tutors etc are often sceptical when popular hobbies like football etc are chosen. So it's a great way to stand out from the mundane. When I did my dissertation in 1874, it was on horse racing and gambling, so I speak from ancient experience :-) [Post edited 6 Jun 10:31]

This, with knobs on. Just don't care about City one iota, and if it stops all those other plastic fans going on about their own side, good for me. |

Didn't we always think it would come to this? Football ruled by who has the most powerful lawyers - what a mess. They all cheat at FFP, Chelsea, Man U, everyone. Hate all the big clubs, always have done, but it is all beyond the pale now. I want us to get promoted, of course I do, but there's no doubt the Championship best reflects football of when we fell in love with it. |

I agree on paper with your sentiments, but watching yesterday it all seemed a bit off, as it has done for a while. Hopefully just first game nerves, rust, but we hardly look full of confidence. [Post edited 5 Jun 9:55]
