"Southgate is insisting he doesn't tell them to drop deep after scoring which makes me wonder where they get it from." But...does he tell them to push up? Every time he was shown on TV he was either telling them to calm down or think, or sat watching the game. He really doesn't do in-game management, compare that to how Guardiola, Simeone, Klopp, Arteta and just about every manager out there coach their teams through games. Southgate doesn't do that. Edit: Iโd also love to know why Hasselbaink is there given his coaching & managerial record, must be inspiring having him & Southgate as a management duo!! [Post edited 20 Jun 20:32]

100% this. Bellingham has to put his ego aside, his performances have never justified the hype. Every time he got the ball tonight he lost it then sat on the floor looking at the ref for a sympathy foul, this isn't Real Madrid with their La Liga referees! He needs to drop back alongside Rice and put in a lot more effort than he has so far this tournament, he's not the star that his agent/management team are making him out to be. |

Rico Lewis is right footed and has played well in CM as well as RB so I was a little surprised he wasn't included in the initial squad before it was cut down to 26. I presume he was thinking of Rico Henry, the Brentford LB who would definitely have been capped by now if he hadn't picked up a serious injury a while back, no idea if he's back playing yet but I suspect not as they had Reguilon on loan last season. A shame for him as he'd almost certainly have been in the squad otherwise, a very good LB. |

True but when he did drift inside it meant there was no one wide left because Trippier isn't a LB and wasn't pushing up, when Trippier did push up he immediately turned back onto his right and went backwards or inside again. Second half, Foden stayed wider which resulted in him not getting involved as much. Get Foden in the middle with an option to his left and I'm sure he'd have an impact. It was all very unbalanced last night & Foden suffered the most because of it, and is therefore getting the most stick too. |

I wasn't disappointed by last night as it was utterly predictable. When you don't have a LB the logical thing to do is play a back 3 (Guehi-Stones-Walker). Instead we shoehorn a RB into LB with predictable results. If you want to play TAA you have to play him wide right imo where his long passing, switching of play and crossing can be utilised and his weaknesses won't be exposed as much. In CM, his ball control isn't good enough and his body shape & positioning is weak, often the ball will go straight back to where it came from because he hasn't opened his body up to see what's around him or progress the ball. Foden is at his best playing as a 10, not stuck out wide. When we played France, he terrified them every time he drifted into the middle, but Southgate kept insisting he stick wide. If we're going to play him, play to his strengths and get him in the middle. For me, Bellingham is better playing from deep as he can use his physique to break the lines, if you play Bellingham as a 10 you lose that. A CM of Rice-Bellingham would have everything and allow Foden to play as a 10. The solution in my opinion is a 3-4-3 with Foden and Saka playing behind Kane. Saka often goes inside & Foden playing centrally would create space for TAA and Gordon to push forward. No square pegs in round holes. Pickford Walker-Stones-Guehi TAA-Bellingham-Rice-Gordon Saka-Foden Kane On the positive side of things, Guehi and Rice were excellent, as were others in periods. Gallagher & Bowen did well when they came on too. |

I've got a feeling it's going to be based on the view from away shirt, navy with white pinstripe hoops, just a guess though. |

He'd get booked for kicking the ball away. |

Who's going to pay money for him, his stats are awful and despite taking great strides he's still incredibly raw. On a free, someone might give him a 2-3 year contract on the off chance he develops but as things stand he seems more suited to American Football. Next season is a big one for him, he needs to prove himself. |

But we won't see him picked to play because they won't tell us the starting line up, or kick-off times, or the fixture list... |

If FFP disappeared you wouldnโt get clubs fiddling sponsorship deals to get around rules. The Sheffield Wednesday situation was cleared because it was benchmarked against other clubs sponsorship deals and deemed to be in line with them so Sheffield Wednesday hadnโt got any advantage from it. |

This just shows what a mess FFP is and always has been. If Man City want to spend, let them spend. They're only doing what chelsea did before them, and what Blackburn did before them. Bringing in all these rules around spending will just result in what's happened, clubs try to find ways around them. Find another way to protect clubs from going bust, owners depositing into escrow accounts or something like that. I like the idea of aligning spending limits with TV income as the income can't be fiddled, the downside is that they'll still find ways to pay players off the books. |
![](/images/avatars/3276.gif) | Forum Reply | Eze for England! at 10:48 4 Jun 2024
Eze couldn't have done any more last night, he has to be on the plane. That was TAA best game in CM in my opinion, but was still only ok. He's much better out wide. With our lack of LB options, the only solution I can see is 3 at the back, which would allow us to play to our strengths with all our attacking midfielders. A 3-4-3 (more of a 3-2-4-1 or even a 3-3-3-1) with Rice, Bellingham, Mainoo and Gallagher/Wharton in CM. Gordon, TAA, Bowen, Trippier wide options. Foden, Saka, Palmer & Eze in the 10/support striker role. With the 3 additional places in the squad we could still take Maddison and Grealish plus an extra CF. [Post edited 4 Jun 10:57]
