The referee at Shrewsbury was from Darwen, which is probably closer to Rochdale than Oliver Langford's residence is to Coventry.
Also, Dale's referee v Sheffield United was from Cheshire (North-West) when we were playing a Yorkshire team.
Our referee v Walsall (away) and Millwall was from Lancashire (Preston to be precise).
The appointments have some geographical restrictions (primarily based on postcodes, I believe), but officials do tend to live far enough away from both teams.
EDIT: Add to that, we took four points off Coventry last season with referees from Birmingham and Northampton. [Post edited 4 Mar 2016 21:51]
