The opposite.

I’m absolutely furious that they insist on playing stupid, unnecessary and unachievable culture war games instead of doing what is blatantly needed.

The barge is a stunt. Nothing more.

Any idea as to what they should do Gwyn ?

Because it seems whatever they try to do is derided by Labour or challenged by human right lawyers then blocked by echr.

Not an exhaustive list but:

1. Dramatically increase the speed of processing so that those who can work can and help the economy.
2. Stop putting people up in barges/hotels/former military bases at ridiculous cost. We managed to throw up nightingale hospitals for covid really quickly. Prefab solutions (without giving contracts to your mates) would help.
3. Go back to France and say that would would like to take them up on the offer to have a detention centre in their side of their channel and yes to their offer to man it.
4. Ensure legal routes are available. This would build political capital for stronger measures for illegal immigrants
5. Restore and backfill the cuts to border force to bolster capacity.

There’s also the things they shouldn’t keep doing:

1. Dog whistle policies like Rwanda/ascension island/barges that are impossible to achieve.
2. Stop being silly about the EHCR. if we leave, that’ll be us in a club of three with Russia and Belarus. Speaks volumes.
3. Stop victimising lawyers who are doing their job. It’s not their fault the government keeps trying to break international law.

All of that and ABSOLUTELY DEFINITELY number 4. Then have a massive advertising campaign.

Speeding up processing is also crucial, we have thousands of immigrants from Albania and WHY?

If that is the case he must be well happy with Labour the way they are going about stopping anything the Tories try, both parties are as useless and bad for this country as each other.

Some very good points made.

It’s absolutely astounding to think that the backlog of cases number to be processed has increased from around 39000 in 2017 to around 170,000 today. The government’s handling of this issue has been shambolic and they are responsible for the situation we are in now.

Is this barge going to make a difference? I don’t think it will, it’s nothing more than a prison ship and it’s going to be full in a few days time and we’ll be back to square one. We need a proper policy, processes in place etc and we need people employed to deal with the applications. That will cost the government money which they don’t want to spend, but it’s cheaper than paying millions everyday to hotels. We’ve had people on here quite rightly whinging about Drakers and finances, but this government’s approach to and spending on immigration is costing us far more money than people couple imagine.

How do you take back control, when you have these so called human rights lawyers fighting them every step of the way.

Record numbers arriving again today, So we are are going to exceed the £6 million a day pretty soon.

What's your opinion on the Stradey park hotel?

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Shame that Brexit took us out of the Dublin agreement really, dont you think ?

The Dublin III Regulation enabled the UK to return some asylum seekers to EU Member States without considering their asylum claims. It also provided a legal route for reuniting separated asylum-seeking family members in the UK. The Regulation will no longer apply in the UK from the end of 2020.

Still people knew exactly what they were voting for….

Maybe best if we rejoined the EU as Brexit has been a generational failure.

If only the EU were more competent at dealing with criminal gangs enabling the trafficking of people across an entire continent in exchange for money we wouldn’t need the Dublin agreement or the Biffy Clyro barge or whatever it’s called.

This is a mess of entirely their own making.

Worst thing for us was the Communist bloc breaking up because ,basically, they were kept inside their own countries .

One of Merkels more idiotic decisions was to open the doors and wave everyone in.

Not quite as mental as shutting down Germany's nuclear power stations and becoming utterly dependent on Russian fossil fuels, but it's up there.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
