| The Scape Goats Become Hero's 22:10 - Feb 10 with 1235 views | SaintNick | Ross Stewart, Ryan Manning, Jack Stephens & Shea Charles have all had some pretty voiciferous critics on this board and yes I have been a culprit. But they all played a big part tonight fair play to them | |

He was our most consistent player under Still, was out with an injury and has come back as good as ever. He's certainly not been a scapegoat that I'm aware of. Now, Cameron Archer is a different matter. But, he deserves the criticism he gets. [Post edited 10 Feb 22:26]

I agree with you, but he was not popular in our promotion season, when he went out on loan many were glad to see him go and even when he was playing well under Still there were still some who would not give him credit

Quality player for this league and that’s why Wednesday fans voted him player of the season . Irish fans love him too.

He's definitely benefitted from a full season at Wednesday last season The only thing I remember him doing under Martin was clotheslining a 78 year old Albert Adomah on the edge of their own box away at QPR and getting sent off But you're right, he's a very good player, really hope we can convince him to sign a new contract With regards to Stephens, whilst I don't particularly rate him as a player it's always seemed to me that he does care about the club, you only had to see him at the play-off final to see that

I do think Stephens cares about the club, but I care about the club twice as much as he does and i wouldnt want me playing in our defence either lol

Likewise Its just he seems to get lumped in with the group of players who have been part of the alleged toxic culture Never seen any evidence of it unless I've missed something?

He scored the winner in the first game against Wrexham. He gives his absolute all for the club. At Stoke he was immense. Tonight he scored. Since he came back.in the team, we have had clean sheets. There has been many great performances from him this season. He's a good player at this level, and a Saint. He has been at this club for years and continues to do us well. [Post edited 11 Feb 0:43]

Stephens has improved a lot. That tackle at Stoke right at the beginning of the game was immense and he is consistently performing well now after years of sub standard performances. Fair play to the bloke. I also think he is more of a leader than some suggest I’ve heard some saints players comment on how vocal he is.

I agree with this He looks a different player since we went to a Back 4 Still too slow tho passing but what a game he had last night and it’s clear he does care

You overrate yourself Nick. You either care or you don't care - you don't "quite care" or "care more". In his case even apart from his professional pride as a footballer Stephens cares because his family are settled here and for him providing stability for his kids at school and his wife and her own job and social circle for as long as possible is a better motivation for caring than sitting in the stand screaming at him. He also cares because if he doesn't give 100% he is dropped and then he is out on his ear and the disruption to his family starts all over again. You can decide every week whether to watch the game or not. Does that suggest you "care more" than him? You seem to have decided after month one whether you rated him or not and now you cannot be seen to change your mind or acknowledge how he is playing today.
