| Ted Hendrix / RIP 14:46 - Oct 27 with 21706 views | Charlie1 | Hi everyone, Been a long time since I posted so for those who know / remember me, I hope you are all well. My brother and I Dad, Ted Hendrix, who was a frequent poster and known to many on here over god knows how many years, passed away yesterday in the early hours. My mum, brother and I were all with him at the end. Candidly, he did suffer for a couple of weeks and it was a difficult period for us all, but the last few days he wasn’t suffering. He was content and comfortable despite the cancer. Dad loved his club. His hero’s all played in the 60’s and 70’s when he was a kid growing up and causing mischief in west London. A brief story. Fathers / mothers obviously introduce siblings to their football clubs (or mental torture if you support QPR). Dad took me to Loftus Road in 86 for my first game against Liverpool in the Milk cup semi final. No idea when he inflicted it on my younger brother! I stopped going a few years back. Fell out of love with the game and found the Redknapp era awful ie players we signed and we lost sight of who we had become. In addition, my wife and I had a family which was my priority. When we became aware that Dad may not have long left, I took my two girls to Loftus Road for the first time, against Preston last month. In the back of my mind I thought it would be a no brainer. Few away fans, easy win etc. At half time I had two bored kids, tired and thinking what on earth is this, two down and ten men on the pitch. There is something special about Loftus Road when the lights come on, and when there is something more, deeper meaning to it all. Sure enough, the second half was magical. I did tell my girls numerous times that supporting QPR is massive highs and lows (typically lows). They loved it. The day after, they spent time with Dad for the last time (we didn’t know that at the time but I’m sure you can read between the lines re health deteriorating). Therein a conversation about QPR over the years and generations talking shop. And we gave him a program and A kick up the R’s. Somethings are meant to be. I’m aware many of you have asked for updates and probably contacted Dad. My brother Paul and I want to thank you all for your thoughts, best wishes and friendship over the years. This message board meant a lot to him, especially the last few years as he had a few health issues. Thanks again for the well wishes and support. Take care all. You R’S! | |

| Ted Hendrix / RIP on 17:48 - Oct 30 by Northernr | Actually had a really nice suggestion emailed into us today. Given 'Ted v Bale' is a bit of iconic image for the message board... We could have a thread each year where we post the best QPR-related pics of the season as we go along (Paul Smyth's backflip the other week for instance), and then in May we have a vote for the best QPR pic of the year and have a bit of an award in Ted's honour. Thoughts? |
Great idea. We could name it 'Ted thread 2026/7' etc | |

| Ted Hendrix / RIP on 18:14 - Oct 31 with 503 views | MoonshineSteve | Ted was great. A builder from Hammersmith and proud of it. Remember he and I being asked to turn it down while trying out a couple of guitars up in Denmark Street, as we got a bit carried away. Also remember him walking out of a pub in Colchester. As a non-drinker it was important to Ted to have a pub that did decent food. We went into this pub because it had a sign outside "Come and enjoy our fine food". We went in, Dave was ordering drinks and Ted asked the barman what the food was. He turned and pointed to a pile of cheese sandwiches wrapped in clingfilm. Ted just turned round and walked out. We had to cancel our drinks and catch him up as he stomped off. Really sorry Dave. Condolences to you and the family. | |
| I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham. |

| Ted Hendrix / RIP on 13:14 - Nov 1 with 61 views | Mytch_QPR | Belatedly adding to this thread... RIP Ted. A lot of people saying they didn't know Ted personally, yet we all knew him as his posts were unique and, above all, honest. I posted in 2015 that I was running the London Marathon. Many posters offered their best wishes and sponsorship, but Ted sent a message telling me I should be proud of my achievement and all of the training hours I had put in. It was very different to the other posts and really stuck in my mind. A man of sharp wit and ruthless brevity (as opposed to Rufus Brevetty), he was the antipathy of the armchair Sky fan. He will be sorely missed. [Post edited 1 Nov 13:19]
