Dont know if anyone spotted that the England wicket keeper who took five catches against Pakistan the other day (John Simpson - who plays for MCC) is the son of former Rochdale cricketer Jack Simpson.
Jack and his family were big into cricket. He had the talent and the passion for cricket. His family had the money but could he get into the Lancashire squad - No! His family always maintained it was because he wasn’t Grammar School.
Jack sorted it for his lad and I wonder if John might become a Test regular? He took his opportunity really well.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Also related to Walter Gowers(Hornets) and Kenny Gowers (Swinton), who were both pretty good Rugby League players.

His dad Jack was a decent keeper at Dane Street in the 1980's.
Think he might have moved into the Lancashire League with Ramsbottom?
And yes, he married Karen Gowers, daughter of Ken and brother of Mark.
