Any teachers on here? 18:54 - Apr 4 with 936 viewsFrog

Just about to start my final placement next week and then I'm just about done. Was wondering how long it was before people found a job, applied for a couple already, didn't get 1 and have another interview next week.

Primary and ICT at secondary. I prefer primary though, Key Stage 2 hopefully.

How both? Primary or Secondary surely! Please explain.

I had a job at the beginning of February of my last year. For teachers currently in a job they have to give their notice in by the end of May. Therefore virtually all jobs after that time are filled by NQTs or people who are currently on supply. A number of vacancies generally appear at this time when schools set their budgets based on pupil numbers and option choices.

They are big changes regarding what was ICT. There is now a greater focus on the computing element. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I do not understand how you can be looking for both Primary and Secondary places. When I trained many years ago you either qualified as a Primary or Secondary teacher.

I qualified in 2009. In ict, I do not understand how you can be both primary and secondary! Need clarification.

I have done a 3 year degree in key Stage 2 & 3 which qualifies for ICT in secondary and also as a primary teacher.

pretty sure DY is a teacher, could be worth a PM.

Life is a game of fate.

I'm also confused about the primary/secondary conundrum.

Anyway, similar to what isitme says. I've mentored two trainees this year and they both have jobs already with their final placement still to come.

I don't think there is a definitive answer to the question, as it depends on whether it's primary or secondary you are trained in, what your subject specialism is and the area of the country in which you want to work.

Also feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Do you have any experience teaching examination classes? If you don't that could seriously limit your chances of getting a job in a secondary school. I would have thought that anyone with IT skills would be very attractive for a primary school.

Thanks guys. Just to clarify: The degree I have done does indeed qualify me to teach primary or ICT at secondary, subsequently I have done placements in both types of school and prefer primary. My final placement, which starts next week, is actually in a special secondary school so that should be interesting.

I've been watching the jobs pages and appears that although their are a few jobs around, May will hopefully be a little busier.

If you are male you should have a good chance with primary. Also you said you had applied for two posts with two interviews, that is a good record so your applications must be fine. If you can offer another subject that helps as well. I can teach maths also. I had two term placements in secondary after qualifying. Then got an opportunity teaching adults which I have been doing since.

Don't know if its any use to you but I saw on my LinkedIn feed today that a TeachFirst contact is looking for teachers in computer science and ICT.

Can pass on the recruiter details if its something you want to look at.

Thanks a lot, but pretty sure it's primary I want to do, not keen on kids when they get past 11!

Having worked in a special needs secondary school for several years i can thoroughly recommend it.There are of course varying degrees of special needs and associated workloads consumate with that.

If when you have experienced that placement you feel that it is an avenue you would want to pursue then pm me and i will endeavour too help you.

I'm similar - a 46 year old mature student about to start my second placement. Well I will be when they actually find me a school near Brum.
