I’m just terrified people will notice how good he is.
We really found one.

Says a lot the players went for JCS. I think Cook has been outstanding too, but I think JCS has been overlooked by fans a bit because of last season. Bit like when everyone was about 4 months late in realising how good Barbet had been playing for us.

I wish we had a benchwarmer who had scored 12 goals this season!

Saw Leeds the other night at Boro, and thry were terrifying. Cannot see who we have who could possibly contain Summerville, who's the Adel of this season. Think it will be comfortable for them and then we'll endure a horrible saturday.

West Ham would be pointless, can't see that happening.
It'll be Spurs or City I think.

All those things are true but there’s not a chance in hell he’d turn down the opportunity of champions league football.

Exactly. He nearly went there in the summer. Pep likes him, and could easily fit in there and give them options.
Spurs heavily rumoured. I think Liverpool are an option. I think Arsenal could be an option - they need more depth.

That's true though. The fabled 'pay as you play'.
Ned has said some good things about Ramsey too, and he is highly thought of as a youth coach (Eze has praised him), but that's clearly v different to coaching at Prem level.

Think I've still got that too, and I didn't mind the circle to be honest. better than a big patch, and made the numbers easier to see. but I remember Jim Frayling saying he got absokutely slaughtered for the circle!

Next season - 4 key players for us to keep
at 17:06 23 Apr 2024

Can't agree with a lot of that. While our top 15 players are good enough, we cannot go around carrying passengers like Kakay, Drewe, SDM, Begovic, and I have to say, EDB, although he showed some promise earlier in the season. Almost all of those out of contract should probably go.

We will have to try and sign a striker, which means at least one of the current 3 will go. That is most likely to be Dykes.

Kelman has already ludicrously signed an extension: hopefully we won't be repeating any more of that nonsense.

Again, it wasn't the Warburton year. That year we had made space to be able to try it (and we were top 4 until late Feb - it wasn't that unlikely. I'm very pessimistic, but in Feb I was not booking any holidays and was convinced we'd make play-offs at least: for a year we'd had an excellent record). It was the end of the Warbs year: we tried, it failed, we had to sell *then* - we didn't, because Beale convinced them not to.

I think some fans are still not quite understanding how much we are losing. If a good bid comes in, it is not about making a choice: player is sold, simple as that. We're not potentially selling JCS in case he gets injured next season, we're potentially selling him because we will make a handsome profit in doing so, allowing us to re-invest and make the team stronger.

As for this season being 'very bad', I'd dispute that. The first period under Ainsworth was certainly 'very bad' - worse than that, in fact. But under Marti we have been a solid, average Championship side that likely would have been safe some time in March had he had a full season with this team. We have played very poorly at times (Millwall, Stoke, Sheff Wed), been very good at times (Leicester, WBA) and been competitive in almost every other game.

If we trust Marti, and I think we do, there is no emotion required if we receive a proper bid for a player: we sell, we run the club more sustainably, we re-invest. It's not even an argument in reality, however much some posters might like to present it as such.

Depends when you're talking about, but certainly in the 70s and 80s teams either went out of business or came exceedingly close to doing so through the similar sort of mismanagement and relegations we see with teams today: Charlton, Boro, Swansea just off the top of my head, a decade or so before the Prem existed. the gulfs are much wider now of course; but in the 70s 2nd Division teams often used to outbid 1st division teams with wages to sign players, who would drop a division for more money. John Burridge did it almost every season.

Old bum nose Hinchcliffe? That's his entire shtick. Woeful commentator, zero insight. Thick as mince. It goes over 'he should have hit it lower' - thanks, Andy. Hates us, too.

I'm not really sure what dealings done nearly 3 decades ago have to do with now?

People still I think have it slightly wrong about MW's final year. It was not a disastrous decision that year to push the boat out. We could afford it. That's why we did it. And it was working until late Feb. The mistake was that summer. When it didn't work, then we had to sell. But Beale told us not to. So we didn't. But to remain competitive we must be looking to sell our assets at their peak and replace with cheaper and keep improving. We did it badly with Les (who was irreplaceable anyway), but other clubs have shown more recently how to do it, and it can be done.

The 'on the beach' argument is probably the worst in football. Were Swansea on the beach yesterday in a game everyone on here said they'd definitely lose?

Championship Predictor - final table

If Blackburn win we are all but safe. Hudd and Birmingham can't both overtake us, because they play each other, so essentially 2 teams are guaranteed to finish below us now. Sheff Wed need a minimum of 7 points to overtake us. Their GD is so inferior to ours (incredibly) that if they lose today there would have to be a huge swing in GD for us to finish below them.

Ilias.
I vote for him every year.
(I accept it's Cook or JCS - I do think they praise for these two is a bit unfaierly weighted to Cook though. JCS has been outstanding).
