Complacent QPR caught cold by Owls – Report
at 12:49:52

An abysmal performance where we couldn’t match the intensity of the Wednesday press. It’s so frustrating when we showed real resilience in the last couple of matches, to almost none in this one. Much is debated game by game as to which striker we should start from Dykes, Armstrong and Frey. Trouble is none of them score often enough, and we’ve had to rely most of the season on goals coming from our defenders and midfielders. Therefore if they don’t score, don’t select them! For Plymouth I would go with the following in a 4-3-3;

Begovic
Dunne Cook Clarke-Salter Fox
Hayden Field Colback
Anderson Willock Chair

Maybe a bit of a gamble, but I think worth a try.

Dunne’d in the gob – Report
at 21:17:56

At the moment Jimmy struck the ball, my thought was that it was going over the bar. I think that was probably due to all the near misses we had, not just in this game, but many over the course of this season. When it actually went in, for a moment I was frozen not believing it was in the net. Then the euphoria set in. What a goal! Having now viewed it back several times, it is without doubt a thing of beauty.

Act three – Report
at 11:59:11

I did feel that our 3rd game in a week would be our undoing. The first half was quite reasonable, but after that we just ran out of steam. Could we have Senny back please. It’s fair to say that Begovic has made some very good saves this season, but I do think he is a liability behind what is a very decent back 4. With the way things are so tight at the in the relegation scrap, I think it’s highly likely that the bottom 3 will not be decided until the very last day of the season at Coventry in May.

Field's surprise double caps fitting footballing tribute to Bowles – Report
at 12:54:26

That was a fantastic match and atmosphere. Best for a long time. Who knew that Jimmy Dunne was a skilful player with a great touch. Anderson - sheer class. Although Frey missed the penalty he never stopped running and pressing all night. 19 corners- astonishing. Must say well done to the Baggies supporters who clapped for Stan particularly at 10 minutes. Field back to his very best and 2 goals. All in all a great night, and a fitting tribute for Stan. Proud to be an R!

Willock completes Rangers' Rotherham revival - Report
at 18:18:21

Rotherham were playing with 3 up front with a high press at the start of the game. I don’t think it’s wrong to go long on occasions. I mean no one is suggesting we revert to Gareth Ainsworth type tactics, but sometimes it just makes sense, and their goal could have been avoided. Well done though to the team for coming from behind to get the vital win.

I must say that under the circumstances Chair had a good game. Can’t imagine the pressure he must currently be under psychologically. I don’t think we should judge him until the full and complete facts come out regarding his case. From what has so far reported, it all sounds rather strange. Finally, Stan the Man may now be gone, but never forgotten!

Paal's late salvage papers deep fault lines - Report
at 13:53:21

Can't think of a worse quality match that I've attended for years. A real yawn fest not helped by an incompetent ref. I thought that Steve Martin was "The Man with Two Brains", but here he showed that he didn't have one at all, let alone any common sense. I suppose it was just about worth turning up for the free scarf. Perhaps it was the club's way of compensating us fans for all the crap performances we've had to endure this season.

A win - Report
at 20:57:09

I can see where you're coming from Clive in giving Willock just a 5. That was a fantastic cross from him for Chair's tap in goal, but that was the only thing of real note he provided. In the second half there were many occasions where he opted out to tackle, and for the last 20 minutes he played as a pedestrian. I felt he gave up competing. If he's fit for Huddersfield, I'd have Smyth back in replacing him. Just a word on Dykes. I love him in his new "number 10" role. So simple, yet genius from Marti.

Ever more new and creative ways to lose football matches – Report
at 19:20:52

Often in games it’s down to fine margins. If we could have taken all those chances we would have won the game comfortably. When you’re down on your luck as we are, you don’t get your fair share. I really like Sinclair Armstrong, and apart from a lack of composure it was a strong performance. I think he has great potential, but is obviously still very raw. Continue to play as he has, the goals will start coming. I don’t think Marti is far off from knowing his best team / formation, but it’s a question of who can remain fit. I’ve not given up hope just yet.

This is us – Report
at 23:55:53

It does seem a bit harsh Mari specifically calling out Sinclair Armstrong for some defensive frailties. After all he is a striker. If you look at our defence in this game it was arguably the worst line up I can recall for a very long time, so when we conceded 3 goals in rapid succession, it really was no surprise. Offensively Sinclair was by far the best player on the pitch.

A couple of observations, Begovic needs to distribute the ball much more quickly. The were many occasions when he could have thrown the ball out to a free player, but just faffed about until he kicks it short to a defender who then struggles to clear his lines. Also Dozzell (don’t get me started), in added time at the end of the match was in a good forward position very high up the pitch and was about to receive a pass, when instead he pointed for the ball to be played backwards instead. That really boiled my pi$$. One of the main problems with this squad is that it has a very negative mindset. Moving to a more positive one is never an easy thing to do. Maybe a lot of the players have doubts about their ability, and find it difficult to improve in certain areas (defending set pieces comes to mind). Or is the reality that a lot of our players are just not good enough, and never will be? I think we know that answer!

The season of evil begins with the birth of a new year – Report
at 20:54:07

Looking at the team sheet before the game it was obvious that we would lose. No Chair, Willock and Cook, and with Dozzell that’s effectively starting the match with 10 men in a much weaker team. Marti talks about how good his previous teams were in defending set pieces, well it’s probably because he had better players than he has now, who are at best League One standard. I do fear that relegation is staring us in the face, unless by some miracle we can take advantage of the January transfer window, but who would want to loan us players with our credibility in developing anyone being so low. Why would any decent player even want to sign for us on a permanent contract. Where can we get a decent striker from? Maybe the QPR women’s team - can’t be any worse than the ones we have in the men’s.

Typical defensive lapse makes it Saints' day at Loftus Road - Report
at 09:23:21

We never really looked like scoring despite playing fairly well. We seem to getting more crosses into the box, but not enough bodies in there to get on the end of them. If only we had more players like Chair who is so positive with the ball. It’ll be interesting to see what team Marti puts out for Millwall, which now looks to be a must win game. Merry Christmas to one and all.

The QPR is strong in this one – Report
at 17:46:03

I guess a bit of a wake up call after the 3 wins on the bounce. Marti is gradually learning who he can rely on to at least be a serious contender for a place in the team. I think he will have learned a lot from this game, but lets face it with a squad this thin, he hasn't got that many choices at his disposal. I really hope we can sign a least a couple of players in January. Like most have said, top priority is a striker.

Illy and Willy bring strictly business back to fashion – Report
at 20:20:24

Can't remember the last time you gave 3 players 8/10 in a match report Clive. Best performance of the season by far. Well organised in defence, midfield, and attack. 110% effort from everyone. Starting to show real pace in the team, and lots of crosses into the box which we've missed. Passing and pressing is getting better. The team has definitely bought into MC's tactics . Also, so much more "togetherness" now than under Gareth. Marti is "the man" - all teams should get themselves a Spanish coach / manager. We've got ourselves a really good one!!

A Ben Pearson own goal – Report
at 20:33:27

Finally we get the win and scoring 4 goals in the process, but ironically in typical Rangers fashion, this was not a great overall performance. However, most importantly this should instil a huge confidence boost going forward. It shows that we don’t have to be at our best to be able to win games, and potentially when we do play better we should be a lot more competitive. I’m impressed with what Marti has been able to achieve in such a short time. As far as the squad is concerned I’m starting to think that we might just have more strength in depth than I thought, but the key will be fitness and keeping injury free, with Clarke-Salter and Willock as 2 key examples.

QPR and Bristol City cancel each other out with new autumn fashion lines - Report
at 17:34:12

The improvement has been significant over the past couple of matches, albeit from a very low point. At least we’re now trying to play proper football, seeing a lot more possession and less of the long ball. I think that Dykes should be dropped in favour of Armstrong, who at least resembles a striker. I would also drop Dozzell as he just doesn’t contribute enough overall. Dixon-Bonner always looks positive on the ball, and having him in the side will I believe give us more goal scoring opportunities. I have been impressed with Marti so far, and think he will be good for us. Having said that, unless we can start scoring goals, we’ll be playing in Division 1 next season. It’s difficult to see where these goals will come from, but I’m more optimistic now than I was a couple of weeks ago.

Each goal more farcical and easier to score than the last - Report
at 12:13:26

Schoolboy defending, or is that insulting to schoolboys. Quite the worst defensive display I have seen in a long time. You’ve got to get tight to your man, but we just stood off giving Blackburn acres of space. The only positive from a dire performance was that we only lost 4-0, as it could have been a lot worse. I have supported Gareth up till now, as he hasn’t exactly inherited a great situation, but the reality is he hasn’t got the tactical and coaching expertise to manage at this level. However, given the financial constraints we’re under, I’d be surprised therefore if we will see any change soon, and in any case who would want to take us on.

QPR fail another exposure to Coventry’s sky-blue light – Report
at 11:15:34

Even if the Coventry goal would have been ruled offside, and the Sinclair foul was awarded a penalty, we would still have lost. With all the all the good work often created up front, we just never look like scoring, and very rarely do. On that basis surely Dykes and Armstrong have to play from the start. Arguably that’s the biggest error Gareth made. I look forward to the return of Colback and the debut of Cannon, but whether that can shore up a sinking ship, I don’t know.

Clunky QPR left to settle for Swans stalemate - Report
at 14:17:53

I took away more positives than negatives from this game than some. Since Gareth has come in there does seem to be more belief and tenacity in this team. They do seem a lot fitter than they were, and some of the link up play has been pretty good. It was unfortunate that the handball goal wasn’t spotted, and on another day we would have come away with the 3 points. Chair’s overall work rate is to be applauded, and Smyth coming back to us was a great bit of business. If we can just get a bit more service into the box with players being quicker to getting in there, and taking up better positions, then I’m convinced we’ll get more goals.

Colback bears gift to former club - Report
at 12:49:12

As soon as that red card was shown I new it was game over for us despite leading 1-0. We've rarely been control of a game in recent times with 11 men, let alone 10. It may have been the correct decision to send off Colback, but this was yet another match of poor officiating.

Begovic. Was that the worst display of distribution ever by one of our goalkeepers. I think it possibly eclipsed anything by Robert Green. Ossie got skinned alive defending in the second half, but as we know he's always much better getting forward, and was fairly effective on the right wing. Jack Clarke another one that got away. Inevitable he'd score against us.

Colback's grand arrival not enough to prevent latest QPR defeat - Report
at 15:00:56

Magnificent support in the away end. Shame we couldn’t take our chances. Ref pretty much gave everything Southampton’s way. But the performance gives encouragement that with a bit more luck and ingenuity, we should hopefully be ok this season. This assumes we can get the players out injured fully fit, and not be hampered by further injuries Also, if we can continue to bring forward the youngsters this season, it should bode well for the future.
