Playing Arsenal in 2012, Robin van Persie made a lunge for the ball at the Loft End but missed. His momentum took him over the touchline and he ended up falling into one of the deep pits occupied by a startled cameraman. Emerging, thankfully unscathed, some time later, I was rather amused when the chant went up, “He plays in the hole, he plays in the hole. Robin van Persie, he plays in the hole”.
Our treatment room looking like ‘A&E after the running of the bulls’ made me smile (although it probably shouldn’t). I’d be more concerned if they actually were assuring us our injured players were ‘back on grass soon’. With the state of our pitch that could be some time.
For space reasons I won’t quote the above again but, suffice to say, well done and total respect for your tenacity in taking this on, E17. I wasn’t at the game but it sounds like a nightmare for those who were and got caught up in it. Charlton seem to recognise the seriousness of the situation and appear to be engaging, which is a good thing.
