So we're getting Sutton and Forest Green. Hopefully Worthing (seaside) and Brackley (any excuse for a long weekend in Oxford) to come up. Nothing against Alty or the Shaymen, but I'd rather keep the derbies. Of Gateshead, Solihull, Barnet and Bromley, the last named are the least interesting, so they can get promoted... |

A couple of points that haven't been mentioned. 1. I think Tyrese Sinclair is still young enough that, if he's offered a new deal on the same or better terms than thus season, we would be entitled to a fee under the Bosman rules if he decides to move elsewhere. 2. Whilst the step up from the level he played at last season proved to be a bit much for Michael Afuye this season, he seems to be doing reasonably well at Guiseley on loan and may be worth looking at again. From what I saw early this season he couldn't be faulted for effort and application, even if he wasn't then ready for Conference National level. |

Registered or not, he's not on the bench today - Big Ferg seems to have recovered sufficiently to be a sub. John, Gordon, Sinclair all start - shades of Gregory's Girl |

Whilst there are no quick fixes to Britain's current woes, reassigning the senior civil servants from HM Treasury to Sellafield to clean spent nuclear power rods with their toothbrushes would probably be a starting point... |

Not the fault of the club, or the player. When he did play for us, he looked reasonably useful. Shame it didn't work, but since he's not had a happy time at Dale and is AFAIK based "dahn sahth", a loan down there is probably best for both parties. Good luck to him (except against us, obviously!) |

A quote from a poster on Chesterfield's message board: "Henderson WILL score against us. He has to by law, I think. Thankfully it waint be the only goal in the game." Hendo does like scoring against Chesterfield. Hope he's fit to play a part in the game... |

Matthew Barnes-Homer appointed Assistant Manager of Havant and Waterlooville (possibly still playing as well, was a player/coach at Brackley before moving). |

I don't know the answer either, but can make a guess. KH played alongside Wayne Evans and Neil Edwards, and managed Matt Gilks, Gary Jones, Lee McEvilly and Grant Holt - between those six, I think all games between KH leaving Dale as a player and being appointed as manager can probably be ruled out. Soccer base only gives team details back to 1996/97 (the year KH joined Dale as a player). However, Steve Whitehall and Mark Stuart were both still at the club and played alongside Hilly that season. These two were both regulars for the previous five years or so, and there may not have been many (if any) any games missed by both of these. So I would guess at 1991 or 1992! |

One of the random Facebook posts which come up ever more frequently has pointed out that James Milner's premiership career has lasted longer than the gap between World War 1 and World War 2. Ian Henderson made his league debut a couple of weeks before James Milner... |

If Tav Campbell is getting a few goals for Wealdstone, then good for him. Whilst I don't think Wealdstone are particularly flush with money, if he scores a few for them one of the Southern NL clubs who do have backing - Ebbsfleet, Eastleigh, Dorking, Boring Wood - might offer us a few grand at Christmas (or even before, since there's no transfer deadline). |

Hopefully either Hendo or Rodney are fit to play alongside Mitchell. If not, Sinclair should play there, as the player most likely to score. That's assuming we play 4-4-2. If we play 4-3-3, then I'd play Keohane and Sinclair either side of Mitchell, with Oduroh and John at full back (I'd play John at LB either way as his height may be useful against a big team.) EEL and Nevett at CB with Ferguson on the bench with McDermott, Jez and either Afuye, Oscar Kelly or possibly both if we decide to do without a sub goalie (I'd personally have Brad Kelly there, in case of random accidents/red cards). |

I think he joined them some time last season, but not sure it's been mentioned before - Harrison Hopper is with Bradford PA. |

292 Dale fans and my Birmingham-supporting friend, who enjoyed the match and living 15 minutes away from the ground may well be attending a few more games there this season. |

I thought that was a decent afternoon's entertainment. Dale were the better side throughout, and improved as the game went on. Moulden, EEL and Nevett snuffed out most things between them, John was steady at left back, Jimmy K excellent at right back and pushing into midfield at the appropriate time, and just as good when switched to the left (a sensible decision as Oxford's Right Back was the weakest of their defenders, so having a more attacking player on that side was a good idea.) Clayton was excellent in midfield, keeping the ball moving and well supported by Harvey Gilmour. The young lad McDermott on loan from Vale looked useful when he came on, and possibly more of an attacking threat than the other two. Sinclair and Afuye did reasonably well, without dominating their full backs. As others have said, Jez The Unpronounceable looked an absolute monster when he came on, and is big enough to play at through the middle if required. Hendo looked his usual classy self and Kairo Mitchell did a reasonable impersonation of Calvin Andrew, hardworking but not looking like scoring. As for Oxford, Josh Parker up front (ex Gillingham and others) is a decent enough forward, but was left isolated too often. To their credit, they weren't cloggers or hoofers, tried to play properly throughout and kept going for the full game. They also provided better food (I do like a burger) and far more competent stewarding (in the ground) than at the COA. Hope they stay up... |

Tommy McDermott, 18yo midfielder from Port Vale, on loan. Has had a few games for Vale's first team, and a loan at Salisbury. Looks to be a like-for-like replacement for Cody Johnson. |

Devante Rodney should maybe be setting his sights higher than L2, imho. He got into double figures for goals scored last season, despite playing in a pretty dreadful team and being shoved out on the wing for part of the season. If he can find his shooting boots in the NL and get 15 ish goals by Christmas, I can see a decent L1 club (Shrews, Bolton, Lincoln or even Port Vale) being interested, and probably having more money than Newport to spend... |
| Forum Reply | Bradford friendly. at 21:37 29 Jul 2023
Had a decent game today imho. Played the full 90, didn't do much wrong. Problem was that Stockdale was a wingback fan, and Bentley too stupid to recognise the potential of CJ playing there. Big and fast, needs to learn the position, but signs today were promising. Although playing on the other flank, Wayne Evans (RIP) and Joe Rafferty were both solid fullbacks, rather than wingbacks. No reason why CJ can't be a ""solid citizen" on the left, giving Jimmy K or A N Other a bit of licence to roam on the right. |
