Yep, tactical inflexibility. One size fits all rather than the correct system and personnel to suit the opposition at hand. For some reason I got deja vu when typing that. Strange.

It was, although I don’t necessarily blame Kane for this. He’s proven for many years now what he’s capable of. A lot of it is doubtless down to what Southgate is asking of him. As I say, a rethink is needed if we are to do any decent miles in this tournament.

Absolutely. It was all too cautious. And then there’s the elephant in the room - Harry Kane. Trying to be both a No.9 and a No.10 and being No.2 at both. That’s partially why I believe Foden and Sterling have struggled too.

A major rethink needed for the Czech Republic game and any future progress.

Qualifying easy is winning every game. We could’ve easily lost that tonight. It was too defensive. Play either Rice OR Phillips and not both. There’s a start. Ease the caution. Stop playing backwards to retain possession rather than creating opportunities. The amount of times we could’ve crossed or got a shot away, but paused, lost the opportunity and had no choice but to play backwards was frustrating.

There was just an all round lack of urgency tonight. Scotland, meanwhile, made the right team selection, had more desire, have a world-class player in the making in Gilmour, and did the necessary. I couldn’t have complained had they won, such was the gulf in comparable desire.

When you consider some of the other teams in the tournament - I’m looking at you Italy - and compare theirs with our performance tonight, we are not deserving of any kind of ‘favourite’ tag.

We have the personnel, so let’s set up to set them free. Hopefully tonight was a wake-up call for Southgate. We’ve had a domestic season of smartarse football, I don’t want to see it over the summer too.

I imagine 442Dale will have something to say about Italy’s shorts this evening.

Absolutely this. Analytics can tell you where to look, but then I firmly believe you still have to go and look physically.

If we do sell Humphrys, it would need to be for a decent fee if we are to make money, due to the sell-on agreed with Southend.

What’s going on?

My understanding is that meetings have taken place with people interested in joining the board. I would hate to think barriers in addition to that in the car park were being put in place.

CEO relationship with the Board.

The CEO can sit in on board meetings and doesn't even need to be a shareholder. The only thing they can't do, if not a director, is vote on boardroom decisions.

Club Statement (for shareholders, via email)
at 08:41 28 May 2021

Outside investment will always be welcomed, James, but when the source is keen not be know - by both their own choice and the club's - people are going to be naturally suspicious.

You should always ask the following:

- If you are not a dyed-in-the-wool RAFC supporter, why would you want to invest in the club?
- How can a club like RAFC give you a return on your investment?
- And, most importantly, where is the money coming from?

Answers to those questions might at least help shareholders make a more informed decision.

No, but if you answered my question as, "How can I promise how to react when I don't know what you are going to say", you would have answered your initial question.

We didn't pay anything for Shaughnessy. We only paid a fee for Conor Grant of our January incomings.

Most obscure signings. Who is yours?
at 13:48 18 May 2021

Chris Armstrong. Was with us for about two minutes during Parkin's second spell. Did the pre-season tour of Scotland but never made it home - joining Queen of the South.

And no, YD, he wasn't a "random jock".

This is why relegation was catastrophic for us. There is no way on earth, unless someone invests a ton of cash into the first-team squad, that we can have an attitude like that.

We have fallen back to a level where we were never a big fish in the first place. Securing players such as Bennett would be us doing well, in my opinion.
