Could This Weekend Be The Start Of The Greatest Ever Season For Southampton FC
at 09:53:04

We can but dream.

What you say about the Saints strip is true. My friend Simon was living in Sao Paolo when Brazil beat Germany 2-0 in the 2002 World Cup in Yokohama. Out in the street in his Saints shirt, celebrating with Brazilian friends, Simon was pulled aside by a TV crew and interviewed. He was asked if he was really a Saints fan. When he admitted to it, the interviewer told him that Southampton are revered in Brazil, as it was St Mary's player Charles William Miller who had introduced the sport to Brazil in 1894.

In Ralph We Trust !
at 10:19:00

I agree with much of what you say; I like Ralph as a manager. I enjoy his philosophy of attacking football, and I think he has done enough to deserve our support through this difficult period. Maybe Perazi is right, and there should be a shake-up of his coaching staff.

Our club is such a curate's egg. It's great in part, we have a number of wonderful players, and when the team plays well, it is a delight to watch. We do, however, seem to suffer from a massive sports psychology problem; whenever a game starts to turn against us, the players heads seem to go down, and it all goes to pieces. Against Leeds was a case in point; in the second half, we just seemed to give up.

Breaking News !!! Southampton Referee Request Submitted
at 09:33:41

I can't help wondering if Mike Dean hasn't got a bet on about how far he can push Hassenhuttl before Ralph's entirely admirable principle of not whining about the refereeing cracks.

The sending off of Bednarek was an utter disgrace. Martial should be ashamed of himself; it says a lot about you as a person that you are prepared to cheat in this way when your side is 6-0 up, and damage a fellow professional in the process. What a tosser. The worst thing is that Mike Dean was called over to look at it on the monitor and STILL persisted with his ridiculous penalty decision AND got his red card out.

The Adams disallowed goal was the most ridiculous VAR offside decision to date; even worse than the one on Ingsy's goal against Villa.

Ralph Hasenhuttl Gives A Warning To Those Yet To Sign A New Contract
at 10:38:16

Now, with the club flying high, is definitely the time to put the pressure on Ings and Bertrand to commit.

I would hope that as both players have already tasted the experience of being on the bench at a "bigger" club, would rather choose to be first choice at St Mary's.

Danny Ings has always made plain his love of our club. Stay at Saints and be a South Coast legend !!

Saints Confirm Wesley Hoedt Signing
at 21:14:39

Excellent signing. We now have real options in our defence.

It'll be really interesting to see if the club continue to play hardball with VVD now. I'd still like to see him having to play for the reserves all season, as Voltaire would say "pour encourager les autres".

Van Dijk Hands In Transfer Request And Issues Statement
at 20:19:13

I wonder if the Royal Ballet would like to put in a bid. VVD has proved to be a total Primadonna, so he should fit in well at Covent Garden.

The whole boo-hoo story that he feels driven to put in a transfer request (which is what he should have done in the first place if his intentions were honorable rather than money grubbing) leaves me entirely unmoved. Shame on you Virgil.

Chelsea In For Van Dijk And It Could Suit Saints
at 20:26:00

At the right price a deal with Christensen in return could be a good one for Saints. I'm really not sure that I can see VVD ever playing for Saints again.

Virgil's behaviour is symptomatic of quite how rotten and corrupt 'the beautiful game' has become. Such a shame that players who behave with loyalty, honesty and integrity seem to be a thing of the past.

If he is fit enough and we can swing a 6 month deal, we have to go for it. We can't afford to do nothing.

Saints At Norwich City The Verdict
at 20:06:39

I think the scoreline demonstrated where our problem lies; both goals from our central defenders.

We urgently need more firepower in attack. Jay Rod seems to be back on the right road, but is only one player. Nathan Redmond isn't the finished article yet, Shane Long seems to be trying to set a new goal drought world record, Sofiane Boufal is starting to make his mark in the club but PLEASE let's sign a confirmed goal scorer.

Poor Lewis - I did feel for him, but I guess he'll have learned a lesson he'll never forget.

Maya's header was brilliant, what a goal. However he was entirely responsible for the Canaries' equalizer. You are a DEFENDER Maya. Do try and remember that sometimes.

Virgil Van Dijk Confirms He Is Happy At St Mary's
at 15:12:17

I thought that Claude Puel made a fair point, that VVD will certainly (barring serious injury) be worth the same in 2 to 3 years time, so the club has nothing to gain from a sale in the short term.

Glad to hear Virgil confirm that he's happy at St Mary's; long may he remain.

Koeman Asked For Our Respect But Showed Us None In Return !
at 19:54:13

Fantastic debut for Sims; all congratulations to him.

Kudos to Claude Puel too. His approach is spot on for our club.

The question I'd have asked RK after the game is whether Age concern or a fertilizer company would make a better sponsor for the Toffees' defense.

Is Ronald Koeman Telling The Truth As To Why He Left Southampton
at 14:19:00

I think that Koeman has at the very least been disingenuous in his utterings. I'm sure you are right that his departure was precipitated by his new agent. As to whether he'll ever see the massive transfer budget he was promised by the toffees, I have serious doubts. Farad Moshiri made his money in Steel and in oil in Russia; I suspect these days he's not feeling as flush as he used to.

RK did a decent enough job for us, but I do share the view that he didn't do enough to bring on and integrate our own home grown players, so he may have done us a favour. I have very high hopes for Claude Puel, I think he's an excellent fit for Saints and is proving to be an excellent manager for us.

Why 10th Will Be Success For Saints This Season !
at 15:42:11

How lucky we are that our Club was saved by good people who have made their money by manufacturing, by employing people and by paying their taxes, rather than becoming the plaything of an Arab prince or a front for some unsavoury character with a very questionable background. Their businesslike approach has made Saints the big success story of recent years; above all, the long term nature of the "Southampton Way" is one of the Liebherr Era's biggest triumphs.

It's true that our rise from the gloomy depths of league one has been nothing short of meteoric, yet keeping things at the level to which we have become accustomed is no easy task. Sometimes we have to be prepared to take a step backwards in order to take another two forwards.

The recruitment of Claude Puel makes clear that the board still place great importance on bringing through our young players to the senior team. It's self evident that this policy of bringing players through to first team football is the best way to make Saints academy the most attractive choice for the most talented youngsters in the country, making the whole thing a virtuous circle. Sure, it requires more patience than just going out into the market waving a cheque book, but it is far more sustainable, and most importantly far more gratifying for we fans to see home grown players in the team. It also means that as supporters we have to accept that the club will move players on as we need to make room for the next crop.

It's true that Saints haven't been very busy in the market this summer, yet it's clear that the priority has been tying down key squad members too long term contracts. Let's get behind our team and our new manager. I'm confident that the recruitment of Puel is a canny move which keep our club moving in the right direction.

Bertrand Deal Shows That The Players Believe In The Club's Ambition
at 09:34:24

It is significant that several of our key players have signed new long contracts, the more so as (like Steven Davis) he has signed long after the departure of RK. Good to know that these guys don't buy the "lack of ambition" nonsense we've heard from departing managers who have not been allowed to spend like drunken sailors.

I suspect that players like Ryan, who have experienced the green grass on the other side of the fence at so called "big clubs" may not have found that experience as fulfilling or as valuable in terms of their own development as their life at Saints. Being picked every week for first team football has to beat sitting on the bench a lot and/or being sent out on loan all over the place.

Further, if you look at the progress many senior players have made at the club over the years, it is proof of the excellent set up we have for player development at our club.

Saints Target Resigns From Current Club !
at 09:54:42

It's far more likely that he's going to PSG; they certainly seem very confident about it out here, and as you observe, they have pots of cash and are in the Champions League.

In any case, if he did come to St Mary's, we can be pretty sure he'd be yet another manager just using us as a stepping stone to a so called "big" premiership club. I'd far rather we appoint someone who would show us some loyalty and stay long enough to really build somethi
