Injuries
at 15:40 20 Oct 2026

We’re constantly going with our hands (and seemingly knees) tied behind our backs.

I still think the scheduling is crazy but FFS we just can’t carry on with all these injuries. It’s killing us. Something has to change.

Dembele playing now against Bristol City…
at 11:45 20 Oct 2026

I hope we absolutely complained about that. The Bolton team were obviously told to go in hard as that wasn’t the only incident where the aggression was unnecessary. It’s crazy for a DS match. How the guy didn’t get a red card I have no idea. Pathetic refereeing.

As for Obikwu we don’t know why he’s not being picked. Maybe he just isn’t good enough. It happens.

Our horrendous ACL injury history
at 07:20 20 Oct 2026

Just wanted to also say that it’s a nightmare injury to deal with. My son has just had a knee operation which required a cartilage graft, which I’m guessing is a similar issue, and it’s been horrendous. It’s been very painful. He can’t really go out because he can’t bend his leg beyond twenty degrees in a knee brace which makes most activities pretty difficult and he’s understandably terrified of damaging it. He can’t really do anything for himself like get dressed, have a shower, even make a cup of tea. Crutches are painful if you can’t let your bad leg weight bear at all because all the weight goes through your under arms.

I think they have a lot of guts playing again. I really think my son is not keen to do anything that would cause it to go again because it’s not a pleasant thing to deal with. Thankfully he’s got some lovely friends that have come around to keep him sane - he’s only 22 so he should be going out and being an idiot not hanging around in bed or on the sofa. Six weeks doesn’t sound like a long time until you can’t do anything for yourself or go anywhere and then it seems like a very long time. And then he’s got all the rehab and physio to do. He can’t really go to work either because he’d have to get his colleagues to do everything for him which would be embarrassing and he’d be worried about knocking it or slipping when out and about but luckily he can work from home.

People had a go at Luke Shaw for going mad at the guy who nearly took him out recently but I can understand if you’ve had a horrendous injury and someone does a similar tackle to the one which caused it you might react similarly. I know it’s not life threatening like the sad news we’ve had recently of our popular posters but it’s not an easy thing at all.

What a shame! Looked probable at the time but I’ll miss him and his crazy exuberance. Also some much needed pace out of the squad.

It’s the going missing, particularly defensively that annoys me. When we get good defensive numbers it’s a lot to do with players further up the pitch putting the effort in. I’m not sure if it’s partly his lack of pace, so he gets caught higher up the pitch and can’t get back to defend. I still think he could be more involved and I’d like him to develop that part of his game.

He’s also suffered a bit from our wastefulness in front of goal. Taking figures from another player: Finn Azaz: he’s created six big chances and got five assists. Vale has created five big chances and got one assist. Obviously we notice assists more than promising passes that CTN.

That’s amazing news Mart.

She sounds like an incredible person with a lot of support from people who love her. That’s got to be a major factor in her prognosis. She has already beaten the odds from what you say so I’m sure she will continue to put everything into her recovery. Good luck going forward.

Fair enough Brian if you didn’t mean the team but that’s what you started with saying. When I say team I really mean the whole team rather than one or two players. But difference in how we interpret things so fine.

But I do think context in which games you win or lose is important. So Birmingham have played Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Wolves and Southampton in their other home matches, so more difficult teams, so it’s not like they’ve been playing dross at home and drawing but then play us at home and are magnificent. They’ve also brought in quite a few players so have probably been gelling and are now starting to click, hence moving up the table,

I genuinely don’t think yesterday was down to a lack of belief. I think it was down to not having enough quality on the day and our better available players being weary. Birmingham were not just good they were also very industrious yesterday. We can sometimes overcome our lack of quality in certain areas with effort and good organisation. But less so when we’re tired and we’re playing a team with quality, very few injuries and effort.

It’s a bit harsh to say across the board we lacked those qualities Brian. Bearing in mind we’ve got players coming back from injury and we’ve had a tough week and we playing a team that was assembled for over £60 million (plus loan players) we certainly had players that were putting in a shift.

I think our entire defence plus Charles, Kamara and Smyth were all putting in a shift although some looked a bit weary. Vale was a cardboard cut out and I think he should have helped out far more when they were overloading Adamson on the right hand side, sometimes he was trying to cover three players when they were bringing Stansfield over. Poku was also not tracking back enough or doing enough of the hard work.

I’m pretty sure Kolli can’t lead the line on his own without someone like Lloyd supporting him, at least right now and against better opposition. He looks absolutely lost and gives the ball away in dangerous positions as he thinks he can hold onto possession like Chair can but he’s not Chair. But I think he did put some effort in and it’s a shame Llloyd wasn’t there as an outlet and to occupy the defenders more.

It’s more than they have a huge amount of quality in their side and we’d probably have to be at our best and with more of our squad available and not playing them away at the end of a three match week. Which I think is what you’d expect when you’re playing a £60 million side when yours cost surely less than half that. Sometimes you just have to accept that on the day the opposition had a better team. But even then we had some decent chances from Poku who cocked up a header when in a great position, Kolli a couple of times and Kemper when a great cross came in. We weren’t destroyed but they were definitely better on the day.

I was worried that people were getting carried away when we were as high as fourth. Because it invariably means they overreact when we lose a match (not aimed at you this bit Brian, it’s a theme across the MB). I much prefer Stephan’s view about not getting too excited when we win and too down when we lose.

God know,s where Burrell is....
at 08:25 18 Oct 2026

Stephan has literally been talking about when they’re likely to come back. He’s said they’re doing well on their individual plans, may be able to move to team training soon and were having scans to see how they are progressing. He can’t give an exact date because it all depends on how they do in each stage of their recovery. That’s absolutely right because we don’t want setbacks from bringing them back too soon.

If you don’t actually watch his interviews then you can’t really say that the club isn’t providing information. Not everything is a conspiracy.

MiIlwall Away - Advice Requested
at 16:32 16 Oct 2026

Maybe worth contacting the club beforehand as an out of towner and seeing if you can get a ticket that way. I’m guessing it might be pretty popular so difficult to get tickets without points.

It’s pretty organised leaving the ground after the match - I was bit apprehensive about being penned in for ages but they funnel away fans direct to the station. Borough Market is a lovely post match option after the game for a drink and something to eat. Direct line to London Bridge and a short walk.

Yeah. Unfortunately although both young, Kolli and Lloyd are both injury prone with niggly muscle issues, so we have to preserve them a bit with Burrell and Kone not fully fit either.

Injuries
at 08:59 16 Oct 2026

I think most clubs these days in the Prem and the Championship play on semi synthetic pitches. And many clubs at the moment have injuries expecially Millwall and Derby. I think it’s far more likely to be overplaying players in silly schedules and not considering that it’s not a great thing to have elite sportsman schleppimg long distances on coaches between venues and then made to run round full pelt for ninety minutes, getting on another coach for hours and then repeating that three days later with little chance to do your stretching and warm ups in between.

And before people repeat that they used to do that years ago, just go back and look at how they ran around years ago. How much less pressing and running back was there? How fast were they really sprinting and how often? It’s a much more demanding game at the elite level.

And yet with all the money in the game no one is thinking that they’re having people with no real understanding of the demands of the game doing the frigging scheduling of matches with no consideration of the welfare of the players. They literally cannot as they wouldn’t be scheduling us on Wednesday and Saturday when we’d already played on Friday. They wouldn’t have us going between Plymouth and Hull in a three match week with four days in between. They wouldn’t have refs who think it’s perfectly fine to kick someone up in the air, good clean tackle, yes but if someone falls over when they deliberately stop short and have a miniscule prod in the back, definitely a free kick. It’s madness.

Further to my earlier post my first away match this season was West Ham and a creditable draw. I’m off to Birmingham this weekend so hopefully my positive streak will continue.

Yes I looked that up Wrexham the other day because I thought they had an old squad compared to us and 16 of their squad are 28 and older compared to five of ours. And the average age is two years older than ours. I like the fact that we’ve invested more in younger players but with a blend of experience.

I think he absolutely agrees with the approach. I’m sure he actually said it himself at some point that he recognises the need to listen to advice.

At one point yesterday you could see Smyth just missing a couple of balls where he’d been completely on it before and he was straight off. So yes I do think they’re monitoring tiredness.

I disagree about predetermined removal of players though. Some players with their playing style will be more likely to get injured - so players that make a lot of sprints. Also it takes into account how many minutes they’ve played recently, and the amount of work they got through. I’m sure it’s emerged from the report they commissioned about injuries last season so if they’re following the recommendations from that then it makes sense to me. Burrell and Madsen last season almost certainly got injured from being overplayed and we don’t want that this season. Unfortunately we were not able to influence the Burrell one because of the frigging international break.

You should write an article like that for the mainstream press Clive if you haven’t already. It’s absolutely spot on. I was going to say the same about parachute payments and I’ve been banging on about the Chelsea puppy farm for years. It’s really eroded the lower league’s opportunity to raise funds by selling players to the bigger clubs. They really should limit how many young players they can hoover up.

Alfie Lloyd - Well Done
at 10:45 15 Oct 2026

Yes he’s been managed really well by the club. I think the loan did him good even though he didn’t play a huge number of minutes. It must have been good to experience being promoted and playing with a load of determined players and he scored a couple of goals.

You can really see the progress since he was here last. He controls the ball much better in tight areas and he’s more aware of where he is on the pitch related to everyone else so he’s able to get the ball to them. His pressing seems more effective and I thought he took the goal well as well.
