Seems odd to me to have the media officer on board whilst minimising publicity , and , again a personal view , says very little for any new marketing strategy . I really think some hard thought needs to be given to the corporate image projected , but I guess this is an issue that's been aired to death on here .

Bob Mountford must be favourite ; Bill Summerscales , Tony Lacey and Louis Dodds somewhere behind ?

Agree with that . I'm one of Peter V's biggest fans , but he had a 'mare today . A real bad day at the office we can all understand hopefully . However , at times it felt like plying with 10 men !!

The big picture
at 12:25 3 Feb 2015

Do I recall correctly from Dunphy's recent newspaper article that we were looking to upgrade the Academy ? If the Done cash helps us to achieve that , and , in addition , supports the ambition to acquire full ownership of the ground , thereby opening up other potential income streams , then , for me , the future both on and off the field feels a lot more secure . That's my take on the big picture , and for me its better to invest like that for the long term , rather than spend on short term player recruitment with no guaranteed added value . Sure we might take a short term hit on the pitch , but the long term benefits may well offer much greater benefit .

Such an approach seems to mirror pretty closely the Crewe model of the 1980's ; they were always a selling club , but got a reputation for developing and supporting young players on to better things . In turn they attracted better kids , higher fees when selling on , and they forged stronger links with many bigger clubs with consequent benefits . If we could replicate even half the experiences of Crewe in that 20 year period , I'd certainly have no quibbles .

This time last year
at 13:34 14 Jun 2014

Whilst confident in Keith Hill's strategy , I do wonder where goals are going to be found with a reasonable degree of confidence in the higher league . Personally I view Muldoon's signing as a replacement for Gray and Abadaki in terms of potential , so I do hope for another striker to replace the wage we freed up on the return of our loanees . I also agree another midfielder would bolster the squad to allow youngsters like Camps and Cannon time to develop .

I suspect an earlier poster may be right in that we'll hear not a lot until much later this year when the potential for loanees will be clearer , and I also wonder if the odd triallist might appear on our pre-season tour when expectations of players without clubs might be more realistic .

I remember that season so well , particularly the thrill of the televised (Yorkshire TV) game vs Barnsley . Other memories include some important goals from Mark Hilditch ?

The other season , or end of , that's up there for me is the 1985/86 season which was the first with automatic relegation , particularly the win against Stockport . Where would we have been now if we hadn't pulled it round that season ?

George Donnelly - chuffed to have him here.
at 20:37 22 May 2014

True , although even as someone who isn't really a Donnelly fan , I can't escape the conclusion that , in this case , actions speak louder than words . Obviously the exact details of the option trigger are not known , but its a fact that Hill selected the player sufficiently often to justify the exercise of the option , even despite the fact , as already pointed out on this thread , Donnelly suffered injuries and was often on the bench when other options were probably available . In addition we had chance to bring in another and better striking option when Cummins loan was extended in January . These points seem to reinforce the references to statements made about Donnelly's contribution in the manager's eyes .

As often quoted here , we have to trust in Hill's judgment on these matters , so criticism now seems rather non-constructive

Excellent point - JK is a proven Div 1 player as far as I'm concerned .

Controversially , and if we do go up . I wonder if Cav will be on the retained list given his age , and the fact he's not , as far as I'm aware , played above Div 2 in his career . Certainly not a criticism , as I think he's played a significant part this year , but there would need to be some "shape-shifting" , I suspect , to allow sufficient leeway to bring in 4/5 players in the close season if promotion is achieved .

I believe that's what happened with Gray and Abadaki last summer , and I can't see either getting another chance . Although Jamie Allen is the only one to make his mark this year , his progress has been spectacular , and I hope the other three lads are given another year to mature as all three have looked decent prospects on the limited occasions I've seen them play .

I expect him to attract interest at Div 1 or Championship level .

Just what is wrong with some people? (n/t)
at 10:52 21 Feb 2014

Great post !

I often think how unfair it is to interview any manager within such a short period after full time , with adrenalin still pumping , having just de-briefed players on what went right/wrong etc , encourages spontaneous reactions perhaps not always thought through , or expressed as precisely as might be ideal . I think on that basis they should be granted some slack in a general sense .

442's idea therefore sounds a great alternative or complement to the post-match interview .

How much £ from the cup run do we recon?
at 10:48 27 Jan 2014

Really not sure , but my spin would be approximate attendances 26/27,000 paying roughly 15quid a head aggregates to 400K . Take out 10% FA cut leaves 360,000 divide by the 2 teams giving us gate receipts of c180K ? Then there's the prize money (110K) , plus other revenue streams from home games . I also think I read somewhere (re Kiddie I think ) that there was a bonus of 90K for just appearing in Round 4 , but not sure on that point .

All that's gross of course , and as has been pointed out before , all subject to VAT .

OK , I wasn't there , but how any fan can post at 9.52 such a negative post as the OP is just beyond me . Me , I'm just in and am euphoric about the result and how it came about . I will be till about teatime tomorrow , and then I might be interested in a more considered view as to how we played .

I'm all for objectivity and constructive criticism , but if I had been there , I think I'd still be dancing in the streets of Chesterfield . To end the game like that , and to have a first reaction to look for individual faults just seems bizarre .

Great result for a much changed team , and I'm simply delighted !
