Kennedy came through the youth ranks at Bury, having joined them as a school boy attaching himself to the School of Excellence. It seemed the most natural thing to having gone to school in the town to follow in his father's footsteps and join the local side. He made his first team debut for the Shakers back in September 2003 whilst just eighteen years of age. However, that debut may well have led to a 5-3 defeat, but he did enough to impress and he was pretty much part of the first team ever since that day. He made twenty seven appearances during that first season, and remained as their first choice left back since. His performances were one of the highlights as Bury struggled in League Two, and he picked up plenty of praise for his efforts. He was regularly scouted by bigger teams, and Dario Gradi was reputedly a big fan. However, in his final season, things turned a bit sour for Kennedy. He was yet another victim of Chris Casper's management style, and he was dropped from the side as Bury battled away against relegation and it was no surprise that his contract wasn't renewed at the end of 2006-7. He is described as being very much in the Goodall mould as in his biggest strength is pushing forward. He's even been the Bury penalty taker during that time, so he'll come in useful for that Champions League final when we eventually qualify. Despite still being just twenty two at times of writing, he has built up significant experience with over 150 appearances to his name already, and he'll be looking to build on this during his spell with Dale. | |
