New signing Wayne Routledge knows that the Swans have to have belief if they are to succeed in the Premier League

Routledge completed his move from Newcastle United this week and was a second half substitute in the Swans 1-0 win over Real Betis at the Liberty yesterday afternoon.

And he told the official website after the game "We need to have the same beliefs the club had last year

"If we can keep the ball, that allows you to control the game.

"We have to believe in what we have got and what we do. We need to go anywhere in the league and have belief that we can get things from there.

"If we do that, we can surprise a few teams this year.

"It was nice to get a run-out. It was an enjoyable 45 minutes," he added.

"It was a frustrating week, but since I moved here I've had two training sessions and then got on the pitch.

"The more training and game-time I get under my belt the more fitter I will be.

"There's a good bunch of boys here and they've helped me settle easily."

He added: "The style of play and the manager's beliefs and ideas were what I wanted to be a part of - it suits the way I play.

"I'm looking to the first game now."
