Never should have left Saints. That's on RH.

I wondered whether this would turn into another we should never have let Harrison Reed go thread.

I am very happy for Harrison Reed that he has had a long and decent career after leaving Southampton, but the truth was he was here at the wrong time.

He actually only played 17 League games for the club and 30 games in total in the 4 seasons he was in the first team squad, then spending 2 seasons out on loan before joining Fulham in 2019 firstly on loan for a season then permanently.

There was good reason for that, the quality of the players in front of him in 2014-17 he had Steven Davis, Morgan Schneiderlin, James Ward Prowse, Victor Wanyama, Oriol Romeu & Dusan Tadic.

Truth was that he just wasn't getting a game and I am sure no one would say that he was a better player than those on that list.

In his then 3 seasons out on loan we had Oriol Romeo, Steven Davis, Dusan Tadic James Ward Prowse, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg even Mario Lemina.

You say that his departure was on Ralph Hasenhuttl, I am not sure how, when Ralph arrives in December 2018, Reed hadn't played a first team game in 18 months and was out on loan at Blackburn.

In 2019 when he returned to the club RH had Oriol Romeu, PE Hojbjerg , Stuart Armstrong, James Ward Prowse, in 2020 when he left permanently we still had Romeo, Armstrong & JWP truth was he was just not going to be first choice so we took the £6 million or so on offer.

Sadly sometimes at this club you only become a hero when you leave, I liked Harrison Reed, but he was here as a player at a time when we had an abundance of talent in his position.

As I say 17 League games in his 7 seasons of which he played under 3 managers and could have played under another 3.

He was certainly always up against strong competition and it was going to be hard to break through. I think the frustration for the fans was when he played against Everton on his debut and had a mom performance under Koeman. If i remember correctly he then never got a look in and Koeman criticized him. Fair play to him hes had a a solid career.
