Two Weeks Gone Since Still Sacking Are Southampton HedgingTheir Bets 17th Nov 2025 09:18
Will Still departed St Mary's over two weeks ago, but there is still no sign of a replacement being named, are Saints, leading some fans to claim the club is not in control of the situation, but are they dithering or just hedging their bets ? 10

Daily Echo: Tonda Eckert is set to oversee the next three Championship fixtures against Charlton, Leicester City and Millwall, after which his role will be reviewed as interim manager.

Sport Republic - trying to find a way to appoint the Under 21’s coach as First Team manager.

If he wins all 3 games then he will be welcomed with a full flares and fireworks welcome to St Mary's for the game against Birmingham.

If he loses the first game of the trilogy and draws against Leicester then he probably wont be in charge for the trip to Millwall

That pool of unemployed managers is always there. Last season, December was the month when the highest number of managers were sacked. The ones sacked any earlier than that tend to be the most obviously incompetent ones.

I do wonder if Eckert gets the job but doesn't keep it for long, if he risks a Simon Rusk situation and has to leave the club completely, rather than a role being found for him to go back into in a few months time.

Given our turnover of managers and backroom staff in recent years, it may not be a foregone conclusion that Eckert would actually accept the role (which would be massively embarrassing for the Club).

If he signs a 3 year deal to become Southampton manager he is made for life financially on wages the majority of us on this mongboard could only dream of.

Why wouldn’t he want the job?

Because we might not offer it for 3 years.

A years contract on those wages would probably suffice a normal person.
