2017-18 Pellegrino 09:57 - Oct 13 with 485 viewsDorsetIan

I can't tell you why exactly but the start of this season and the way we are playing under Still is reminding me so much of the Mauricio Pellegrino days.

Maybe it's because they are both inexperienced young managers with no managerial track record in England but I thought I'd just have a look at the comparable stats.

Still's first 9 league games: W2 D5 L2 F11 A12
Pellegrino: W3 D3 L3 F8 A9

So very similar (and unexciting) and Pellegrino slightly better and also doing it in the Premier League (although 5 of the teams he played in those first 9 games are no longer PL teams).

With the exception of Boufal's goal, I don't remember the Pellegrino time with too much fondness.

Pellegrino was abysmal.

He took over a side which had reached the League Cup Final and (admittedly highly luckily) finished 8th and had us heading for relegation.

It didn't help that he had van Dijk on strike, though one suspects van Dijk knew that Saints had got a schmuck in.

He's in my top 3 worst ever managers. On the podium behind Redknapp and Branfoot.
