| Watching Arsenal Chelsey Semi Final 20:44 - Feb 3 with 1043 views | hedgeend61 | Arsenal get a corner and Chelsea leave 3 players on the halfway line, meaning Arsenal have to leave 4 back to defend, thus avoiding the normal chaos in the box. Been saying for for years, pointless bringing midgets or everyone back defending corners, mot rocket science is it | | | | |

Neither of those teams has been in any of the last 4 League Cup finals; Newcastle and Chelsea have both been in 2 of the last 4. It's been 33 years since Arsenal won a League Cup final. In every country the big clubs are going to win most of the trophies. It would be strange if they didn't. But, at least in this country, we've got 8 or more big clubs; in most other countries it's just 1 or 2. About your original point, Hedge End, I agree. Even if you leave one player on the halfway line when defending a corner, the opposition won't risk 1 on 1 so they'll leave 2 defenders back. Any team defending a corner that doesn't do that is then missing out on the man advantage it would give them in the penalty area. Let's face it, if a defender gets the ball from a corner, it would mean his team would very likely score if they have a man advantage on the halfway line. Haven't we conceded 1 or 2 like that from our corners? [Post edited 3 Feb 22:36]

| Watching Arsenal Chelsey Semi Final on 12:03 - Feb 4 with 538 views | Ifonly | A related thing I've noticed in recent weeks is that, at a corner, a defender will wrestle a forward to the floor just before it's taken and then the commentator says "check cleared, the corner hadn't been taken yet." Gabriel did this to Joao Pedro last night (Gabriel the Arsenal defender, not the 90s soul singer). What's that all about? It's not a foul because the ball wasn't live, but that means defenders can do what the fvck they want to take key opponents out of the game without penalty, so long as they do it before the corner is taken. Seems wrong to me. | | | |
