Where do new players live when they join us.
at 15:53 7 Nov 2025

When our players look for properties, the main requirement is storage space like a garage or shed, because they'll need somewhere to down their tools in.

Still was the problem
at 23:36 6 Nov 2025

You've got some great ideas there:

- Don't substitute Scienza even though the manager's been advised not to risk him over 90 mins as that might mean losing him for 6 weeks

- Always play Downes no matter how ill he is

- Never make the mistake of dropping JS no matter how rubbish he is

Any other gems you've been thinking about?

p.s. Robertson, Sciensa and F Downs were not in the Saints team yesterday, in fact they're not even Saints players at all

Player Ratings
at 16:21 6 Nov 2025

Looking at the ratings on the BBC site, Scienza and Robinson are the only players above 6.3. So broad agreement with the ratings on this site then.

The only thing I'd say in defence of Baz is that he wasn't the only one at fault for the goal. Aribo was lazy in closing down the cross and the CBs were all over the place, but he still made a mess of it. That's the thing with Baz, he might look good on occasions, but he's just a mistake waiting to happen.

Romeu - should he play on Saturday?
at 16:00 6 Nov 2025

It's worrying that, as the man who knows him best, TE didn't even include Oyekunle on the bench. That suggests he's not ready yet, but as you say it's hard to believe he could be worse than Downs.

Disciplinarian Required?
at 11:04 6 Nov 2025

Not sure we'll get anywhere with a disciplinarian. What's he going to do, drop players? That's exactly what WS did and look how the players reacted. The disciplinarian would drop JS and the Rusty favourites and they'd down tools again. What happens then? Manager sacked.

The problem is the toxic culture at SFC where players can get away with downing tools and it's the manager who gets sacked. There's a bunch of players there who like to have the manager treat them as their mate and it will be difficult to move on until they either lose influence or are gone.

Let's get real, that was no better than against Preston. Preston were a good championship side, QPR are sh1t and lost their last home game 1-4. Under WS we were dominating most games but making errors at both ends. Last night if any side dominated it was QPR. Perhaps the one thing that changed was our luck.

Things will get better

It was Trollope and Lallana themselves that were supposed to provide that experience. That's why they were appointed rather than WS bringing his brother Nicolas who was his assistant in France. So I doubt they'll be blaming it all on a lack of experience.

Points Target for New Manager
at 10:49 3 Nov 2025

We are an unbalanced side. There are some good elements but they're all too much alike. We lack experience, physicality and intensity all over the pitch but particularly in the spine. A DOF who knew what he was doing could rectify that a bit in January and hopefully our luck with injuries etc. will improve, but I doubt that will be enough.

Senior Players Want Russell Martin Back
at 10:25 3 Nov 2025

I can understand that they would want him back. Rusty always treated them like mates and told them they were such good players they could pass it round any team in the PL, all they needed was to be "brave". Unfortunately that's not reality. The reality is that in PL terms they're sh1t players and sh1t players can't win games in the PL by playing possession football.

Bringing Rusty back would be a disaster. We need a long term plan that includes winning games in the PL. That means having a style that can be played by mediocre players. WS promised one style that could do that (high tempo, pressing) but never delivered. We need to keep the long term plan in mind with this appointment. Yes, we need to win championship games first, but there's no point getting promoted with a style that will inevitably fail in the PL.

He'd have my support despite his origins. I think he'd do a good job but I wonder if he'd join us. He started his coaching career at Liverpool and has only been associated with PL clubs. I doubt he'd stoop this low.

I think it will be an unknown European coach.

Ha ha. Based on what? Instead of ignorantly slagging off other people why don't you give us some of your brilliant insights instead. If you've got nothing worth saying then fvck off.

Not all youngsters but that's been the focus since they started. I'd say that the older signings have been more successful on average. I know how mad keen everyone is on stats, so here's one: our average age (weighted by minutes played) has been 3rd youngest of the 24 teams in the championship. I think it shows.

Also, "young" is relative. The spine of the team needs more experience than the rest. A spine made up of 22 year olds or so like Baz, Edwards, Wood, THB, Charles, Jander, Archer and Damion Downs just doesn't cut it in terms of experience.

I think player trading can be a successful model (just ask B'mouth) but not the way we do it. B'mouth and others buy players who are already good at the level and turn them into very good. We buy too many players who aren't quite ready, or are far from ready. They have more scope for improvement and so profit, but can't deliver from day one.

Very well, mature beyond his years. If he plays like that regularly he's ready for a step up.

Possibly yes, but that would still be better than e.g. playing AA there, which is like banging our heads against a brick wall.

Anyone who knows anything about SFC under SR knows that the brief for the DOF will focus on bringing in young players who can be developed and sold for profit.
