If that’s the case we should send him back once we’ve identified a replacement. What’s the point of managing an injury prone player who's not even our responsibility ultimately.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I’d have taken that £5m that was allegedly offered for Varane before the season started. There’s no way he’s worth that now.
Daniel Bennie has bagged another brace (so far, the game is still goin on) for the DS tonight. I think I’m right in saying he’s bagged 7 goals in 8 appearances this season. Even though he was described as a winger when we signed him I’m not sure he has the pace to be a winger but he certainly seems to know where the goal is. I hope he gets a decent loan in January at at least National League level.
Personally, I’d rather have owners and a CEO who manage the clubs budget wisely and appropriately rather than just ‘keeping fans happy’ but if we were all the same…..
What kind of message would buying another goalkeeper send out to Walsh and Cooper? Sometimes you have to take a punt on a young player because of financial constraints or ensuring that fabled pathway doesn’t get covered in weeds. I still wouldn’t dismiss Walsh who suffered as a result of our early playing style and being whooped by Coventry. We’ve changed our style re playing out from the back and I think Walsh could re establish himself and do well (fingers crossed). We bought Mbengue at CB. You may have a point re CM and LB but I assume our budget wasn’t bottomless and sometimes you have to either take a punt on a young player or just hope for the best. Just because supporters want a new player because of an apparent or even obvious shortcoming doesn’t mean they get what they want.
And add a third centre back to those already sitting on the bench/not able to make the match day squad? I’ve seen loads of SM accounts saying we need Edwards, a CM and a RB or even another striker in January. Personally I don’t think we should sign anyone. This squad is more than good enough to be comfortably in the top half of the table. I know it sounds obvious but they just need to play better and, especially after the last two games, the team selection/rotation needs to improve. You can’t constantly lust for fresh meat.
Should we sign RND on a permanent in January if it’s an option or wait til the end of the season and see what’s available? He’s an upgrade on Paal but is he anything more than a solid defender? I’d be reasonably happy to sign him but can’t shift that nagging doubt that we should be looking to sign someone better.
Right from the moment I read the WLS story I never doubted that Furlong was leaving but had no inside information as to why. What irks me, as Matt Winton stated, is the gleeful rush to condemn ‘the club’ by people who don’t, unlike you, have access to inside information and the wild bs they spew as a result. The statements made by Furlong in the official release all refer to the Development Squad and do not mention Nourry or other staff members and it appears to me more than likely that there has been a falling out. Shock news…these things happen. Just because Furlong is a club legend doesn’t mean he has a job for life here. There has been a significant upheaval in how the club is run and to my mind it has been very largely for the good. Things move on, people move on. People fall out at work, it happens, even when they’re doing a very good job.
This unfortunate development (which obviously I’d rather hadn’t happened) is just the latest in a series of things (Ben Williams/Player fitness/Poor team performance/Results) that result in a completely disproportionate outpouring of bile. In my humble opinion this all stems from Cifuentes being relieved of his duties. Some people have just never got over it and can’t wait for another opportunity to have a pop.
Where has he insinuated that? He said ‘ WLS published a story saying he might be leaving. No explanation, no real info.’ What is not true about that? He hasn’t questioned that the story is false, he’s stated that the reasons for Furlong leaving are not known and that it has led to baseless speculation which is absolutely right. There are a few examples of exactly that in this very thread.
