He finally does it. Well done Joe Root.

No need for Jacks to play that.

I think Root might run out of partners before he gets to three figures.

FFS Stokes, why try that run? They were treading water and now we have let them right back into it.

...and now Smith has just been bowled.

Don't want to put a downer on it but we haven't won at Brisbane in nearly 40 years. Five of the six tests we've played there this century have been lost by MASSIVE margins. I think it would be worth lumping on Australia with those stats and that's before you factor in their near perfect record in pink ball tests in Australia (won 13 in 14).

Absolutely loved watching him bat. Courageous and attacking, fiercest square cut ever, he was a joy.

"The hypothetical Plymouth, Sunderland, Southampton three game week"

That wouldn't happen though as one of those three would be a home game.

Not sure about four divisions of 20 but the Football League sure does need some re-organisation. It's patently ridiculous to be playing 46 league games in the second tier of English professional football.

They've now scored half as many as they've managed all season at home. Why are we so, so, so fcking predictable?

I wonder if after the gob bumming in it at Coventry we'll see the green & white hoops again? Or has it been consigned to the bin as unlucky like Gerry Francis did with our all black kit after a 4-1 at Villa Park, opening day of the 93/94 season followed by a 2-0 defeat at the SW6 khazi.

Isn't Selhurst Park a bit like our own lovely abode in that the footprint that it sits on would mean that if those two side stands were rebuilt to modern standards it would reduce the current capacity? Again like Elland Road it's a ground I haven't visited since the mid 90s but I seem to remember not much room for expansion.

I last went in 1995 (Sinclair and Dichio brace) but I'd be amazed if it's changed.

Surprised to see two absolute dumps on there in Elland Road and Selhurst Park. Wouldn't The Valley have been a better option in London and The Riverside for an oop north stadium? Unless Elland Road is getting a long overdue upgrade?

"Willock came back a shadow of his former self, not the example I would cite"

Are you being serious?

After his very serious hamstring injury in the game at the City Ground the season before, he scored a brilliant goal in his first appearance of the season in the first home game against Middlesbrough and Beale was so desperate to keep him on the pitch, he kept him on for far longer than the hour he should have played and was advised to by the medical staff because Beale "wanted to get this show on the road".

Because of that he missed the next three games. He came back, played brilliantly and scored five goals in eight straight games but Beale flogged him into the ground playing him for 81, 88, 53, 81, 78, 90 and 90 minutes before the inevitable happened in the eighth game at Bramall Lane just after he'd scored and the hamstring went again at the start of the second half.

After that injury in Sheffield Willock, whilst he was with us, never fully trusted his hamstring again I think and seemed like he was playing with the brakes on.
