Very pleasing to score 4 goals and achieve a second successive away win. Watford supporters I know felt that they played very poorly and that Saints clearly deserved to win. So the concern has to be that a team playing well below par still managed to score 3 goals against us. |

I recall Mike Channon in post-match TV interviews immediately after the Cup Final having the presence of mind to give his testimonial a plug. I managed to get in with a group of friends, and it was a great night. It certainly seemed fuller than the official capacity.
Am I right in remembering that Bobby Stokes (who couldn't actually drive) was presented with a Mini before kick-off? |

I was there - an enjoyable game with the result never in doubt. It had been a lot closer in the 3rd round v Blackpool two years earlier (the season we were relegated), when it took a highly unlikely goal from Paul Bennett to secure victory.
The problem in 1975/76 was not a simple case of inconsistency, but more the case that we were brilliant at home and dreadful away.

I remember when Kenwyne Jones went on strike because he wanted to move to Sunderland when we were in the Championship. He got his move, but what was interesting was the way that the media seemed to find this quite understandable and acceptable behaviour to enable a player to move to a Premiership club. Jones tried this tactic again at Stoke, but with less success. |
