Why Danny Ings Broke Southampton Hearts
at 14:28:05

Agree with most of this - BUT! no mention of the biggest let-down over recent years, Virgil VD. Lovren was stupid with his comments about leaving for Liverpool, Lallana made misguided comments about his departure, but was a genuine Saint who wanted to better himself. VVD, after being nursed through a long injury all but refused to play for Saints - anyone watching his performances during this period would have seen that he he couldn't be bothered, forcing us to cash in. That's dishonesty, whereas other players give their all whatever. A good example of this was Morgan S, who when refused a move, had one of his best seasons for us, and was then allowed to go to Man United. (I wonder if he regretted leaving, because he was mismanaged at United, and lost his place in the French natioanal team!)

Saints V Chelsea The Verdict
at 10:59:11

Game lost in midfield - JWP, and PH have no creativity! Romeo does his job, breaking up what he can, but then then we give the ball away again! Historically, we have never replaced Fonte or VVD, or Tadic! Perhaps a Lallana at his best would create something! Having said this, the forwards lack a cutting edge between them! Ings is nicking goals here and there, but we don't have a natural goalscorer at present.

The Slate Will Be Wiped Clean Under Hasenhuttl !
at 09:30:32

Good analysis, except that Austin is not even close to Pelle, and especially Lambert, in the ability to bring in other players after receiving the ball. I am afraid that he is a championship player who has made the utmost of his chance at the top level, but cannot provide what we need. He is behind the likes of Glenn Murray and Troy Deeney who are similar players.

Stop The Player Witch Hunts Now !
at 13:47:08

I don't know why the manager is tinkering with the defence - apart from Forster, they have done well generally. I don't see what Yoshida and Stephens have done wrong, although I recognise that Van Dyke is a class player and needs to be included. The big problem has been mentioned already - crosses coming into a striker who needs through-balls!

Fraser Forster May Have The Opportunity To Make The England Number One Spot His Own
at 14:03:19

Forster is indecisive, when dealing with crosses. Saints defenders know this and play accordingly. However, England defenders have little experience of this weakness, and in any case England's central defence is a glaring weakness in itself, so I hope Forster can develop the kind of dominance a six feet seven keeper should have!

Landmark Ticket Price Cap Decision By The Premier League
at 15:38:33

Now they need to cut home ticket prices! With 100 million guaranteed from TV, clubs can't NEED the turnstile money - reduce by 50% and maybe the less well-off fans will come to the grounds instead of to the pubs!

Liverpool Supporters Lead Should Be A Springboard For Change !
at 10:53:59

With the 100 million pounds guaranteed to all clubs in the Premier League, for the next three seasons, it is time for the clubs to put some of this into their own supporters. Leaving aside that some of this TV money should be directed into grass-roots football, say centrally funding referees for junior clubs, most of the money will go to players and their agents. How much contribution to the club's income does the gate-money actually make? Halve the cost of tickets through the gates, whilst keeping corporate prices at current levels would send a clear message to our fans - come and see us! Although the stadiums of the successful clubs are usually full, there has been a creeping change in attendees. Well-off people are able to afford the prices - the less well-off, most of us, cannot easily afford the costs, and if we have children and grandchildren, future Saints supporters, forget it! It's cheaper to take your kids to the pub to watch the matches! This, however, deprives the kids of experiencing match-day atmosphere, and these generations will regard following football as a pub based activity. With the ridiculous amount of screening of the 'big' clubs, the smaller clubs will lose fans to these 'big' clubs, making the selling of over-priced tickets even less likely for the 'smaller' clubs. Long rant, but in summary: halve ticket prices, milk the corporate market as much as possible, and we may not lose future generations of fans!

Spurs Looking For A Cheap Option Swap Deal For Wanyama
at 12:45:23

I'd swap him right now for Dembele. Dembele ran the match at St Mary's recently, and is one of the best in the country in his position!

Fraser Forster To Return To Match Action
at 09:33:02

Get this into perspective: it's great that an excellent, but far from faultless, keeper is almost back - however, his absence is not what is causing our present difficulties. Goalkeeping has not been the problem - it is the midfield and right back, and to a lesser extent the forwards, where we have been short. No goal-scorers in midfield, as well as a disgruntled, non-passing assassin letting us down there, and a mis-firing wantaway are contributing to an ineffective unit which is unable to supply the forwards with enough chances to compensate for their profligacy in front of goal. So, welcome back Forster, but could you play up front??

Arsenal To Table £15 Million Bid For Saints Midfielder
at 10:53:40

I reckon we could get 20, but he will not represent the massive losses of AL, NC and particularly MC. He can't pass, and gets too easily booked, although not so much recently, as he has lost interest!

Saints V Liverpool The Verdict
at 12:18:59

I already mentioned that we have not replaced MS or NC; another gaping hole has been left by Lallana's departure. Whatever we think of the manner of his leaving, he is a player who can make space for himself, and others. Tadic, whilst an excellent controller of the ball, and a first class deliverer, does not create space with his turning - and he is often too wide to open up defences for other players. He also goes missing at times. You can usually play only one 'stopper' in midfield, and as both of ours, VW and Romeu frequently get booked early, we need to play one and have the other on the bench. Romeu, at least can pass, but he is not as effective as VW. JWP can pass, but he never imposes himself. I think we are crying out for more options in midfield - why not give Reed and/or Hesketh a chance. Up front, surely Seager would be hungry enough to come off the bench, when Long and Pelle are being ineffective? Lastly, how poor must Martina be when Yoshida is preferred at right-back when Cedric is out? Yoshida is a committed player, but he's not a right-back! So if Martina is apparently not good enough, why is he on the bench?

Clasie Will Be Classy
at 15:00:32

Clasie, of course, does need time to get used to the Premiership. Unfortunately, he is currently being paired with Wanyama, who has got the idea that he can pass - he can't, and he needs to shift it to a proper passer such as Clasie or JWP. Wanyama's tendency to commit bookable fouls, sometimes in non-threatening areas, or phases of play, is beginning to counteract his obvious strengths - chasing and winning the ball!

Do Liverpool Have One Player Who Would Get Into The Saints Side ?
at 11:27:39

Make no mistake, we have missed Lallana's creativity in tight spaces; Tadic is too inconsistent. Clyne is a far better full-back than Soares, who seems to go walkabout at times, although this tendency is reducing! (And of course, we have no-one yet who can replace Schneiderlin - I bet he's glad he didn't go to Spurs when he threw his toys out just over a year ago!)

Sloppiness "Still" Costing Saints
at 11:55:33

All this about KD, VD and Yoshida making mistakes is missing the point. Our midfield was non-existent during the second half, even more so with the departure of SD. JWP is an excellent passer of the ball, but if he is to step up to the England side, he needs to be able to 'run' the midfield. We saw nothing of Tadic or Mane second half, and we couldn't get the ball up to Pelle. Once VW was booked, he became less of a force: bring on Romau or Reed! (Reed needs to play or go out on loan - he is stagnating on the bench!)

Does Koeman See Writing On Wall After Fonte Signs With Super Agent Mendes
at 18:15:14

Fonte has played out of his skin since we were promoted. I, for one, thought he would struggle in the Premier League, but he has brought the best out of himself, and Lovren, and TA over the last couple of seasons. He can't go on for ever - he is at the top of his game now, and is just beginning to look a little fragile. However, if he can get a good CB to partner him, he could probably raise his game and develop a good partnership. One of his strengths is recognising the strengths and weaknesses of his partner, and adapting his game to suit. If he is the 'main man', he is going to struggle!

Spurs Offered Saints Less Than They Paid For Wanyama Says Le Tiss
at 19:29:11

Wanyama needs a spell trying to get his place back - I'd put Reed in front of him for a while, because if ever a player needs first-team action it's Reed! As far as we know he hasn't been crying to the manager, begging to go out on loan - that's loyalty! VW has played well generally, but he is not yet (if ever) a Champions' League player, because he can't pass further than 10 yards. With MS gone, he seems to think he can fill the place - he can't, he's a destroyer (a very good one) who needs to remember his role - win it, and give it to someone who can pass!

Saints At Watford The Verdict
at 10:38:58

Two teams giving the ball away too easily - both will be punished by other teams, if they keep passing to them! VW can't pass - JWP can pass, but lacks Victor's strength; hopefully JC will come in soon to improve this aspect of the midfield!

Saints At Sunderland The Verdict
at 15:48:03

Defoe's first touch was awful, and he stuck out a leg in an attempt to retrieve the ball. The on-rushing JWP fell over Defoe's leg, bringing them both down! Defoe fouled JWP! And this gaffe-prone ref has got the cup final! With Morgan out, none of the other midfielders is able to pass the ball consistently, which brings me to Koeman's main mistake this season - selling Jack Cork, and at a ridiculous give-away price!
