Fireworks Get Game Abandoned Part 2
at 21:18 2 Dec 2025

Nick, it is really sad to report that the terminally ill fan, whose name was Peter, did not make to the game today after all. A report on social media stated the following: Stichting WensAmbulance Noord-Holland wrote on Facebook: “When the volunteers arrived at the hospice this afternoon to fulfil Peter’s last wish, it turned out that his condition had deteriorated to such an extent that his last wish will never be fulfilled.

Really sad news, no other words really...

What do you call a Millwall fan in a suit, a clean white shirt and a blue silk tie?

The accused.

German Club Considering Raiding Southampton
at 23:15 27 Nov 2025

You beat me to it - when reading Nick’s article I was thinking I am more worried about offers coming in for Leo Scienza in the next few weeks than Spors. Let’s face it, SR are primarily a player trading company not a pukka owner like Marcus was. We have lost so much talent over the last 10/12 years, I sincerely hope LS isn’t the next in line but there will surely be offers. I just hope the special connection he seems to have with SFC is strong enough for him to be able to resist a move if the offers come in. SR in the other hand….

Legend has it that Terry Hurlock allegedly drove down from Glasgow to Southampton in a Del Boy 3 wheeler to sign for Saints, now that’s some journey in a nice Jag, never mind a Trottermobile!

As for Neil Ruddick, the last a few of us London based Saints saw of him was after an end of season game at Arsenal, by previous arrangement with the Club, the team coach stopped off at Dick’s Bar in Hornsey and all the players came in for a few beers. Razor Ruddock brought just about everyone a drink and was the most engaged and entertaining of all the players. After about 90 mins they were back on the coach and on their way back to Hampshire - as the coach went off up Hornsey high street Ruddock did a moon up against the back window of the coach! Little did we know that was our last view of him as a Saints player as he signed for Spurs during the summer before moving on to Liverpool.

Ruddock is now living back in his home town of Ashford in Kent and is the Club Ambassador for his local team.

Can anyone remember Saints scoring 5 in the first half before today?
at 12:52 25 Nov 2025

I did say to my daughter that the one thing I’d have changed from Saturday’s 5-1 win was the opposition, I just wish it had been Portsmouth away.

Without getting carried away, who knows where we can go from here - what difference a bit of confidence makes to players who a few weeks ago appeared to just be going through the motions.

As fantastic as those 9 goals must have been, I can just imagine the frustration when that elusive 10th goal didn’t materialise, especially after Saints scored 4 in the first 15 minutes of the second half. A bizarre afternoon all round - and if memory serves me correctly, didn’t Saints go and sign the Wolves keeper that let in those 9 goals not that long afterwards?

Good news for Nick from the BBC
at 12:25 25 Nov 2025

Good point - for Series 1, the BSL signer in the corner of the screen in the sign zone late night repeat just shrugged her shoulders and pulled a face at the camera. After 20 minutes she was sat on the floor with a bottle of gin smoking a roll up 🙂

Who was the first player to leave Saints that left you gutted?
at 12:18 25 Nov 2025

Channon, both times, and Keegan

Shearer and Rod Wallace

And much later Gareth Bale

The only redeeming feature being we never had to see Matt Le Tiss go to Spurs, that would have been so tough to take.

Good news for Nick from the BBC
at 23:41 24 Nov 2025

Just seen this article (see link below) that says the BBC are starting filming on a second series of the Liverpool based drugs cartel drama This City Is Ours.

Nick - if memory serves me correctly, you were very complimentary about the first series and recommended it as a must watch. I appreciate it’s not for everyone, but on the basis of your recommendation I watched the first series and enjoyed it. Just seen they are filming a second series so I thought I’d let you know 🙂

Apart from the Villa game already mentioned the only other game I can think of is the 9-3 win over Wolves at The Dell in September 1965. The score at HT was 5-2 and amazingly all 5 second half goals were scored by the 60th minute with the last 30 minutes producing no more goals.

Oh Baz …..
at 18:45 8 Nov 2025

OK, so QPR midweek & Sheffield Wednesday today where two games where Baz could gift both teams a goal and get away with it in terms of not costing us the games. The same can't be said for our next four games after the upcoming International break. Charlton & Millwall away, Leicester & Birmingham City at home. He needs to cut out the stupid errors otherwise all the good work that went into achieving the back to back wins will be undone.

That aside, great to see 5 different Saints scorers in 2 games, that would never have happened under Still... Nor would back to back wins! I will readily admit that I have been a stern critic of SR, however, for once, credit where it is due by axing Still when they did as leaving things as they were until the International break was distinct possibility. But, the last two games were winnable opportunities and by acting to remove Still SR did the right thing.

Now keep it up!
- Decent managerial appointment please, no more clever experiments!
- Sort out the keeper issue in January and also bring in a proven, proper goalscoring centre forward.

QPR Away

Talking of how bad those original plastic pitches were, we both know a Saints fan who was stilll playing socially when those horrible pitches became popular. He was playing in goal one evening at a sports centre on 1st Gen plastic so had polyester track suit bottoms on and their normal kit shorts & socks on over the top of the trackie bottoms. Still a keen smoker at the time he tucked a slim packet of 10 and a book of matches into the top of one sock just below the side of his knee. Went to foil a quick opposition attack with a slide tackle and the friction from the plastic pitch undid the flap on the book of matches and then lit them setting his leg on fire! 😂
Happy days.

Players admit they haven't been giving 100 per cent
at 13:02 5 Nov 2025

Quite right - if as has been reported Aribo is earning £70k p/w and for the sake of argument the first day of a new tax year is a Monday, Aribo will burn through his £12,570 tax free earnings allowance by early Tuesday morning, be paying the 40p tax rate on his earnings by the early hours of Saturday morning and then hit the 45p tax bracket (something a lot of people never get to) by lunchtime the following Saturday, just 12.5 days into the new tax year.

As for the pampered little darlings admitting to the fact they haven’t been arsed to put in a proper performance lately, I can only assume come the end of the season they will therefore have no problem whatsoever donating at least 50% of their laughingly called ‘Loyalty Bonuses’ to the Saints Trust in recognition of the error of their ways.

Would it be better long term to lose the next two games ?
at 15:47 4 Nov 2025

My neighbour is a Leeds fan, comes from there and is down here for work at nearby Heathrow Airport. Drives up for all home game and a ST holder. Quite a serious guy and economical with his words. The end of the 23/24 season was awkward. Then as we lost game after game in 24/25 if he saw me after the game that day or the next couple of days he would look at me, just shake his head, tut and sigh. No words were necessary.
Saw him on Sunday after the Preston game and he just shook his head and rolled his eyes then stopped and said when was the last time you won back to back games? Was it last time we were both in the championship and you went ages without losing? No, I said, my father used to tell me about the famous day in happened, the second game was away in London and news reached Southampton by messenger on horseback by late evening and they all gathered around the piano and sang songs of celebration by candlelight. He patted me on the back and went off into his house laughing out loud. First time I’d seen him laugh in ten years of him living next door. An exaggeration of course, but that’s what it feels like! The statue just made me think of it…

First Link Of The January Transfer Window For Southampton

For those of us of a certain age, this is beginning to resemble a Carry On film - don’t think they did a sport based one that I can recall anyway.

Perhaps we could resurrect the franchise and make Carry On Up The Wing? Trouble is, half of SR’s decisions would be rejected by the scriptwriters as just too damned stupid to be believed!

If true, this one included…

From memory Colin Clarke collided heavily with a goalpost suffering a nasty knee injury that he never really fully recovered from. Although he did play a fair few games for QPR he missed as many as he played. Seem to remember we got a decent fee for him all things considered, whist to say we mugged QPR would be a bit strong in the context of Ross Stewart but we did well to get him through a medical and bank a decent fee.

As for they played for both, what about the player with one of the best nicknames, ‘One Size’ - Fitz Hall, he played for both as did another of our recent keepers Joe Lumley and a bit of a collectors item Oscar Gobern.
