Five things about Birmingham

Hunting in packs - Oh my God, it’s the return of the killer cars from Monty Python!

Whatever next? A mutant giant Siamese cat sent to tame the killer cars but ends up devouring buildings. If that’s the case, send that cat to Portsmouth - it could do millions of £’s worth of improvements!

window shut :Ramsdale and Downes still here then and mystery injuries
at 15:16 2 Sep 2026

That’s what I thought, DD was supposedly off to St.Louis City on loan but it appears that he remains a resident of Southampton Donkey Sanctuary.

As for Jander, when asked at a recent press conference Tonda said that his injury was not responding to treatment at the rate that type of injury normally does. This means the return date originally forecast was wide of the mark and it is not something that could have been foreseen. Sounds like they won’t be rushing him back.

Roerslev? No idea what is happening with him - he does not get a mention at press conferences….

That’s revenge for letting us have Brent.

They have asked us to send them the engraved plaque we had made for his dedicated treatment table - nice touch…

Dolly Parton RIP
at 16:54 26 Aug 2026

Not really my bag either, that said, I watched her Glastonbury set on the TV and was surprised how many of the songs I knew and have to say it wasn’t something I regretted watching after it had finished.

Did you know that Dolly Parton has invested over $500 million into her book-gifting initiative, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which has helped millions of children globally by gifting more than 304 million books since the project started back in 1995. Respect to her for that for sure…

RIP Dolly P

Yes, you are quit right, it was a 1-0 win - Sadie Mane’s first goal for Saints. Not sure why I was thinking 0-0…

Koeman era, I had the choice to miss either the Stoke game at home or the Sunderland game at home in order to accompany my daughter on a Bank of Dad shopping trip to the West End for her upcoming wedding. I chose to miss the Sunderland game - that would be the 8-0 then… The Stoke game was just 1-0. Typical.

92/93 season, Spurs away. Unexpectedly able to go but only knew the day before. A Spurs fan I knew well had a spare ST as his missus was unwell so I went with him and sat in the West Stand lower tier. This was the game where Spurs scored 4 goals in 5 minutes after Dowie had put us 1-0 up. Guy sat behind me said to his mate he needed to go for a dump (too much detail), mate says see if you can get me anything to eat on the way back. Guy comes back about 6 mins later as the crowd are celebrating a goal. F@@k it he says, who scored? Sheringham, Anderton, Sherringham again - oh yes, and Barmby!!! As you can imagine, he was inconsolable.

Can we send Stevens to Benfica?
at 16:54 16 Aug 2026

Too right it has, and not only the agent but with the 🤬 that is Roy Keane as your father-in-law chipping away at you to do better and have more ambition in terms of who you play for the lad has no chance of playing with a clear head at the moment.

If we are not very careful this season could rapidly turn into a car crash in terms of automatic promotion as another defeat could see us 10 pts off the top of the table after two games.

Glass half full, there would still be 44 games to go, 8th gets you a play off place, albeit 5 games to get promoted, and in Tonda we still trust.

That said, we really do need reinforcements in the positions already mentioned and some excess baggage offloaded. Not sure how the new finance rules are affecting things but what I am sure of is Ramsdale’s wages will be like an albatross around the club’s neck if we don’t get him off our books.

Surely Brent would like to resume his love in with Slack Jack at Leicester?? We could even Uber him up there gift wrapped in a big blue bow….

Birmingham’s away kit
at 14:50 16 Aug 2026

You are quite right on both fronts, a nice away kit and yes, our lot are clueless.

There is a very good reason for BCFC’s stuff being superior, in one word, Nike. As an ex-sports retail sales manager I know how they operate. Quite often when they do your replica as part of the contract they take over the running (and stocking) of your club shop and online sales portal. So, they don’t just supply your replica but most other things as well. They will make you as much from ACP’s (Associated Clothing Products) as they will from replica sales as they will bring many years experience from running the NFL franchise in the USA so they tend to get more right than wrong.

I had a couple of attempts, about 5/6 years apart, at trying to work with Saints to help improve their retail offering but it was like trying to push water uphill. Absolute waste of time because you were dealing with muppets that would not have lasted a week in the company I used to work for - not one week…

Yes I do remember - then for some reason they’d take the glass and stick it straight in the washer and give you a fresh one every time. Some people didn’t seem to like that a lot at first….

During the third heatwave I saw grown men fighting over glasses in a pub by the Thames near Shepperton when they’d run out of clean ones behind the bar.

Dom Ballard off to Leicester
at 17:56 29 Jul 2026

Currently a free agent after his loan spell at Leicester City expired.

There was one rumour that Rangers were looking at bringing him back but that was in the Nigeria Post not the Scottish media.

Airbo started out at my local club Staines Town for a season before Charlton snapped him up for a modest fee. He can’t even go hack there as the club no longer exist! Went bust in 2022 and their ground is now used by Brentford to play B team & youth team games.

Meanwhile, Brentford’s old Griffin Park ground is just a dust bowl behind the closed gates. Nothing yet built on it. One of the four ‘one on each corner’ pubs has gone, the Princess Royal, but the other three have survived. That said, the Fullers pub, The Griffin, is looking a bit jaded these days…

Nick, I am old enough to remember it. Groundbreaking at the time and very thought provoking. Although only a minor part of the series, the character ‘shake hands’ was terrifying.

By the way, whilst on the subject of series set in Liverpool, Series 2 of This City Is Ours comes to BBC1 this autumn. Like you, I thoroughly enjoyed the first series.

Agreed, they realised the Independent Panel were a bunch of Anchors so it didn’t take much to Tug at their heartstrings and keep them on an even keel. Be nice to see their name on a POSH new kit for next season.
