OK, so QPR midweek & Sheffield Wednesday today where two games where Baz could gift both teams a goal and get away with it in terms of not costing us the games. The same can't be said for our next four games after the upcoming International break. Charlton & Millwall away, Leicester & Birmingham City at home. He needs to cut out the stupid errors otherwise all the good work that went into achieving the back to back wins will be undone. That aside, great to see 5 different Saints scorers in 2 games, that would never have happened under Still... Nor would back to back wins! I will readily admit that I have been a stern critic of SR, however, for once, credit where it is due by axing Still when they did as leaving things as they were until the International break was distinct possibility. But, the last two games were winnable opportunities and by acting to remove Still SR did the right thing. Now keep it up! - Decent managerial appointment please, no more clever experiments! - Sort out the keeper issue in January and also bring in a proven, proper goalscoring centre forward. |

Talking of how bad those original plastic pitches were, we both know a Saints fan who was stilll playing socially when those horrible pitches became popular. He was playing in goal one evening at a sports centre on 1st Gen plastic so had polyester track suit bottoms on and their normal kit shorts & socks on over the top of the trackie bottoms. Still a keen smoker at the time he tucked a slim packet of 10 and a book of matches into the top of one sock just below the side of his knee. Went to foil a quick opposition attack with a slide tackle and the friction from the plastic pitch undid the flap on the book of matches and then lit them setting his leg on fire! 😂 Happy days. Quite right - if as has been reported Aribo is earning £70k p/w and for the sake of argument the first day of a new tax year is a Monday, Aribo will burn through his £12,570 tax free earnings allowance by early Tuesday morning, be paying the 40p tax rate on his earnings by the early hours of Saturday morning and then hit the 45p tax bracket (something a lot of people never get to) by lunchtime the following Saturday, just 12.5 days into the new tax year. As for the pampered little darlings admitting to the fact they haven’t been arsed to put in a proper performance lately, I can only assume come the end of the season they will therefore have no problem whatsoever donating at least 50% of their laughingly called ‘Loyalty Bonuses’ to the Saints Trust in recognition of the error of their ways. |

And still the wait goes on, and on, and on… How many transfer windows is that now? I have lost count. |

My neighbour is a Leeds fan, comes from there and is down here for work at nearby Heathrow Airport. Drives up for all home game and a ST holder. Quite a serious guy and economical with his words. The end of the 23/24 season was awkward. Then as we lost game after game in 24/25 if he saw me after the game that day or the next couple of days he would look at me, just shake his head, tut and sigh. No words were necessary. Saw him on Sunday after the Preston game and he just shook his head and rolled his eyes then stopped and said when was the last time you won back to back games? Was it last time we were both in the championship and you went ages without losing? No, I said, my father used to tell me about the famous day in happened, the second game was away in London and news reached Southampton by messenger on horseback by late evening and they all gathered around the piano and sang songs of celebration by candlelight. He patted me on the back and went off into his house laughing out loud. First time I’d seen him laugh in ten years of him living next door. An exaggeration of course, but that’s what it feels like! The statue just made me think of it… |

For those of us of a certain age, this is beginning to resemble a Carry On film - don’t think they did a sport based one that I can recall anyway. Perhaps we could resurrect the franchise and make Carry On Up The Wing? Trouble is, half of SR’s decisions would be rejected by the scriptwriters as just too damned stupid to be believed! If true, this one included… |

From memory Colin Clarke collided heavily with a goalpost suffering a nasty knee injury that he never really fully recovered from. Although he did play a fair few games for QPR he missed as many as he played. Seem to remember we got a decent fee for him all things considered, whist to say we mugged QPR would be a bit strong in the context of Ross Stewart but we did well to get him through a medical and bank a decent fee. As for they played for both, what about the player with one of the best nicknames, ‘One Size’ - Fitz Hall, he played for both as did another of our recent keepers Joe Lumley and a bit of a collectors item Oscar Gobern. |

All the best 901, I sincerely hope you can work through things and return to the forum once you are in a better place. A good friend of mine listens to a lot of music to help with his moods, he recommends Radio 3 Unwind - maybe there will be something of benefit to you on there? Have a look and see what you think. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live/bbc_radio_three_unwind |

Some of those witches are psychics Lose against Preston and in the best traditions of Graham Taylor the Echo can put a picture on their back page of Still’s head superimposed onto a pumpkin! |

Not like we need a centre forward… According to the PlayStation guru at any rate! |

Right back where we started with Gao then, another so called billionaire in charge without a pot to pee in! Whilst I felt a bit sorry for Gao in the first instance as just after he took over the reigns at SFC the Chinese government threw a complete curve ball at him and other wealthy businessmen who wanted to invest their wealth overseas by freeing their assets and restricting them to spending it in China only thus starving him of the money he wanted to invest in SFC, Solak seems to have shot himself in the foot by picking the wrong people to involve in his core business - poor decision making on his part, sound familiar? Hope he finds a buyer for 100% of SFC and takes the rest of the SR clowns with him to Goztepe. |

Or bring back Nigel Adkins? He led us to two successive promotions and still loves the Club. You could sell tickets for Mick McCarthy meeting Ankersen - never mind embracing failure, Ankersen would end up embracing his laptop shoved somewhere the sun does not shine! |

An almost unbelievable stat. 10 years ago we would beat Arsenal 4-0 at home on Boxing Day, then go on to beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford with a late Charlie Austin goal. Later in the season we would come from 0-2 down to beat Liverpool at SMS and then on May 1st the team gave us a brilliant Cup Final 76 anniversary present by tanking the blue half of Manchester 4-2 at SMS. Results 10 years on we can only dream of under the clowns who currently run our club. We finished the season 6th in the PL with a record for us of 63 points. As someone else said in another thread, it’s not how far we have fallen that is the main worry, it’s how much further we have to fall under the totally incompetent ownership of Sport Republic. |

And in the recent England U21 games he was subbed off against Moldova after 68 mins then was only a sub against Andorra coming on for the last 23 mins, so it’s not just Everton. As Grumpy has said, he’s still only 19 but given his ability I’d had thought he’d be a mainstay at U21 level. Still a long way to go for him but I can’t help thinking he’d have been better off listening to his parents rather than his new agent who I am sure had lining his own pockets way ahead of the player’s best interests when prising him away from SFC. |

Good luck to you - if the Chapel threw tennis balls onto the pitch I can just see a couple of happy clappers near the front going onto the pitch with the plastic bag they brought their flask and sandwiches in picking the balls up for their dogs to play with down the park! [Post edited 26 Oct 16:07]
