Watt View - A mixed bag but turnaround is a starting point
at 22:05:51

My preference has always been 4-2-3-1. We need to be confident and play KWP, ABK, MS, RP across the back, Lavia and Romeu holding JWP in the Steven Davis role and Stuart Armstrong/ Aibo/ Elyanoussi, Djnepo/ Adam Armstrong supporting Che or Mara upfront.

Everton Fended Off Last Minute Southampton Bid For Conor Coady

In buying young unproven potential you rarely seriously improve the first team. It's hit and hope... A bit like our strikers.

Southampton At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
at 10:11:42

Listening to post match I don't think Ralph is convinced by 3-5-2 but is desperately seeking a solution to the run out of steam halfway through a match/ season 4222. He also has spoken out against a vocal leader and the transfer strategy seems very rigid in terms of developing youngsters by playing them. I'm concerned that those older heads aren't good enough - Valery, Stephens, Bednarek, Redmond, Walcott, Elyanoussi and the first crop of youngsters haven't progressed into EPL players Djnepo, Salisu, Adams, Adam Armstrong, Lyanco, Diallo, Tells.

Three Days To Go To The Season Will There Be A Southampton Transfer Shock !
at 18:57:46

I don't think anything will happen this week, but suspect there will be activity just before the window closes after issues are identified in the first few weeks. I think we need two - a cover full back able to play both sides and another centre back if we ship goals again.

Saints Squad In Better Shape Than This Time Last Year
at 13:35:30

I think you are right about the squad being improved but not the first team. KWP, JWP, Romeu and Stu Armstrong are the only players that definitely warrant their place. The change in formation is key to being more solid defensively but I'm not sure it plays to the balance of the current squad.

Not sure why we haven't been mentioned in connection with Joe Rodon. Really good centre back needing game time.

Southampton V Monaco The Verdict

Given two years of conceding far too many goals the formation change is to be welcomed. At least it's not doing the same thing and hoping for a different outcome.

Southampton V Monaco The Preview

Be interesting to see who are the wingbacks tonight. We are really over reliant on KWP at the moment with Tino and Perraud out. Wouldn't be surprised to see Redmond or Tella given a go.

Two More Signings Needed For Saints This Summer But Only One Is Crucial !
at 15:10:58

I think they've decided that a formation change rather than personnel is the answer. I think we will see a lot of Lavia holding in front of a back three with Romeu and JWP as more progressive midfielders. If Bednarek stays either home of Stephens will anchor the three centre backs.

Striker And Central Defender Still On Southampton Radar
at 18:42:39

Whether the strategy is right or wrong it is clear so we surely must trust the players we are bringing in/developing. If we are keeping Adam Armstrong and Che Adams we must trust them to score sufficient goals. Stuart Armstrong, Aribo, Redmond and Elyanoussi have to be the creators and chip in. Salisu, Lyanco and Bella-Kotchap must defend or WHAT'S THE POINT of paying them millions!

Southampton Still Looking For Another Central Defender ! Targets In Sight
at 12:11:17

The project players from two years ago have to be our leaders now. Salisu and Adams. If they turned up consistently and joined KWP, JWP, Romeu and Stuart Armstrong in giving consistently solid performances there would be fewer goals conceded and more scored.

Saints Sign Romeo Lavia From Manchester City
at 23:05:33

Surely the "project" approach giving young players time to c develop means that Tella, Perraud, Salisu, Adams, Adam Armstrong must now show their ability next season. If they don't/ can't then the strategy doesn't work.

If the strategy is to buy young and develop potential, I guess these signings are perhaps the most important of the window.

Last Few Days Of Phoney Transfer Window
at 13:48:22

Whilst appreciating the overall transfer strategy -buy young with potential etc. It has to be balanced against an experienced spine with at least five genuine PL players. Go, CB, DM, AM and a striker. At the moment only JWP and KWP ( possibly Romeu) would get into a stronger PL team.

Jan Bednarek Set To leave Southampton
at 15:51:23

Agree. Bednarek has been part of a revolving and generally inconsistent series of centre back partnerships and defence. Most of the time he has been the best of a poor lot but we need a complete reboot. He has always been committed and hardworking so we should wish him well.

Saints Sign Central Defender
at 12:46:17

It's clear from these signings that Saints, as they've stated, are only interested in bringing in youngsters with potential to develop. Whilst I would have preferred an experienced spine like Nick, it's clearly not the thinking at Saints. Bednarek will now go I guess. Hopefully the new coach will make a difference to the defence.

Saints Announce Double Goalkeeper Signings
at 12:27:02

Really hope Bazunu is as good as suggested and accept it's in line with transfer policy. But I'm sorry we didn't get an established no 1 such as Pope, Henderson or Johnstone rather than a youngster fighting for his place with McCarthy. We really need a new first team spine GK, CB, Attacking mid and striker.
