Refwatch - Rochdale v Scunthorpe United
at 08:38 18 Feb 2026

Just listening to McNulty's post match comments, he said the referee had basically no control of the players on the edge of the box and was screaming, distracting Mani, but the referee thought Mani stopped his run to take the penalty, so awarded a free kick. Yet Mani thought the referee was shouting at him not to take the penalty and so jogs around the ball, crucially according to McNulty the assessor said the penalty should have been retaken and the referee made a mistake.

So it will be interesting to see what the official stance is, but we had enough chances and did not take them.

In fifty years of watching the Dale, I have never seen a penalty decision like that before, please can anyone explain the referee did not order a retake, did Mani touch it, it left me baffled to say the least.

I thought Rodney was out standing tonight and we dominated the game, but could not take the chances, we need to be more clinical, but sometimes I think we over pass the ball around the opposition penalty box. It was a good game, but two points lost sadly based on our domination of the game.

As anyone any knowledge or rumours on Smith's injury and his return. I agree if we win on Tuesday, then we have an edge on York, but Scunthorpe are a good team, but if we don't win, it could have a negative impact on the squad and fans. McNulty's naivety in making unnecessary changes to a winning team, as cost us this season and yet he repeats then, yes I want McNulty to succeed, because if he succeeds then the club would have achieved promotion.

So hopefully McNulty and the team will get a win on Tuesday, and send a message to York that Yeovil was a unfortunate performance.

We cannot expect to win every game, but McNulty sometimes make changes like he is a tactical genius and the performances are usually under par as a result. I may be old school, I was brought up to the idea that you do not make unnecessary changes to a winning team, yes one or at best two, but four is questionable. No doubt McNulty will say he is resting players due to the heavy fixture programme, but all he has done is to give advantage to York in the promotion battle. It is not the first time McNulty as buggered up in his belief in rotating the squad, yes I will praise him in that he as done exceptionally well in achieving the our league position we have, the number of wins so far, but you don't see York changing their team every week. Now Tuesday is a must win.

Give Carlisle the credit they deserve, they came with a plan to stifle us and it worked for a majority of the game. Carlisle have to some good players and it showed in the way the never gave us time on the ball and it did help that we passed the ball across the defence, whilst seeking a gap to open us the Carlisle team, which slowed the game.

As somebody else as mentioned, I cannot think of Whatmuff having a shot to save.

It may not have be the best game to watch, but a win is a win.

It would nice, if they had the decency to offer us some money as a thank you, i.e £500,000 now he has emerged into a talented first team player. after he spent around eight years I think in our youth system.

The Fitzture List - Rochdale Rising: Inside McNulty’s push for sustainable suc
at 11:59 4 Jan 2026

Have there been any updates on the return of Whatmuff and Mani to first team action?

If Levi is going back to Walsall as been implied by other posters, hopefully the club as someone lined up. Would anyone be tempted to enquire about Scott Hogan situation at MK Dons, is he injured or out of favour?

Also we could see Edwards return from Stockport, which could bolster our midfield, which is already strong.

TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Hartlepool United
at 08:59 31 Dec 2025

One Saturday, we need to beat Brackley and hope the results go in our favour, in that Boreham Wood are home to York, a win for us and a draw between them would put us back top.

This may be wishful thinking, but we can still hope the results go in our favour, other games of interest
Forest Green - Halifax (hopefully a draw), Carlisle - Wealdstone (a potential difficult game for Carlisle), Scunthorpe - Sutton (I expect a home win).

TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Hartlepool United
at 23:22 30 Dec 2025

The first half cost us, we looked like a team who had never played together before, we struggled to pass to each other and more often passed to a Hartlepool player. and was second to every ball, there was no structure. I would agree that Broome seem to struggled and looked poor in the way he walked the ball out of his box, like he didn't know what to do or who to pass the ball too in the first half, but this may have been the lack of support from the people around him. To give credit Hartlepool they deserved, they pressurised us and forced us to make errors, and in truth we could have conceded more then two goals in the half.

We improved in the second half, especially when we brought Mancini, Pettit, Galvin and Hendo on, but the damage had already been done and in the case of Mancinii, Pettit and Henderson we left it far to long. What I could not understand, was why we seem to have Rodney wide and Smith down the centre, despite the Hartlepool team being a big physical team, Rodney looks best in the central role. But overall it was a bad night in terms of the team selection and team performance in the first half especially.

I thought it would be a tight game, Morecambe have improved in recent weeks and are fighting relegation, and at 1-1 I thought it would end that way. However give credit to the team, we have put out a weaken team in the last few games and still managed to grind out results, which would not have happened last season. This is an indication of the team spirit which we seem to have.

Refwatch - Altrincham v Rochdale
at 09:31 20 Dec 2025

The team at Altrincham revealed the depth and strength of the squad, which is due to McNulty's recruitmemt, but crucially to the support of the Ogden family.

Despite missing Whatmuff, Beckwith, Barlow, Allarakhia, Dieseruvwe,
and with Mancini, Hosannah, Humbles, Hogan and Myles also not in the team last night, I am unsure if some of these are injured or unwell or just not selected. We still managed to put out a strong team, with people like Pettit, Rodney, Smith, Burger, Moss, Tutonda and Amantchi on the bench, many who would get into the starting eleven of many teams.

So the result was excellent, I must admit I was worried that it could be a banana skin type of a game with so many missing, but credit to the team for the performance.

I must admit, when Carlisle went 1 up, I thought they would win the game, so for Woking to win 3-1 was a bonus that I did not expect.

I know the away game at Eastleigh was ordered to be replayed, when it was 0-0, the home game against Wealdstone (I think) stood, when it was 2-1, but Wealdstone agreed to the result standing.

But if you listen to McNulty he says "he doesn't know if the result stands or not and I hope it does", so even Jim is unsure what the National League Board will decide on what happens going forward. So until we get the decision from the league, we are all in the dark, I expect a replay personally.

I read this rule on the internet, which stated

FIFA, 'if a match is abandoned before the 75th minute, it's typically replayed in its entirety. If the abandonment occurs after the 75th minute, the competition's organising body has the discretion to either replay the match or to allow the score at the time of abandonment'.

I also read this;
If abandoned after a minimum elapsed time (often 70–75 minutes, but varies):
Result at abandonment may stand as final.
Governing body may order result to stand, or award result to one side (rare).
Some competitions use a specific cutoff (e.g., Football Association county rules, some leagues use 75′; FIFA/IFAB recommend competition organisers define procedure).

The National League is well known for making decisions that baffle football fans and the remark about Robshaker, who mentioned how many level five games were on, but he failed to mention that Bury's game at Shifnal was called off due to the weather.

I agree, I am getting fed up with McNulty's interviews and how much he has gone through in his tenure as the Dale manager.

I thought the pitch was holding water in the first half and it was obvious the game would not finish with the constant downpour, I do feel sorry for the Southend fans, in that they have visited Rochdale twice this season and the weather as intervened both times. I know some fans from other clubs have said we should have a points deduction or fine, I will ignore the comments from the Robshaker, (I won't mention that their game at Shifnal was also postponed). The fact is we spent thousands of pounds to get the game on and got to the 77 minute, so you cannot accuse the Dale of not making the effort to get the game on and completed.

The question is and McNulty made a slight reference to it, will the 75 minute rule apply to the game, which could mean the league making us replay the game or the remaining 13 minutes or awarding the points to either team.

Apparently McNulty did not want to risk Rodney on the artificial pitch, because he has a history of picking up muscle injuries on artificial pitches.

However today was a good win and the results went in our favour as well, besides the Carlisle result.

4 fixtures could make or break our season in Jan/Feb

January and February are tough months, but three of the four games at home, which may be a positive or not. But in this league every game can be hard.

I knew it would be a difficult game, with the squad York have, but I did not expect 4-1, but give credit to York, they are a quality team, did they also score 4 against Carlisle. Again why did he change the team with Berkoe and Smith starting, instead of McBride and Allarakhia, he does mention illnesses, but sometimes he does it for the sake of doing it? Does anyone know, what as happened to Levi?

The positive is that we have two games in hand at home, with just two points behind Carlisle at the moment. The season will have a lot of twist and turns, but we need to get to winning ways against Aldershot, if it is on. As the Scunthorpe game been rearranged yet?

if Carlisle win, we will be only 2 points behind with three games in hand, so it is a matter of picking up points with the games in hand.
