Not convinced he's very good defensively. Gets caught in possession a little too easily and not always aware of runners around him Starting to think he's maybe not suited to the English game. Hopefully a European team will see enough promise for us a make a small profit and find someone with the right skillset for the championship. |

Didn't see the whole game so can't comment fully but in those highlights Varane did look pretty leggy. Don't know if he's not fully fit or if his heart's just not in it. You've got to be 100% committed. Even a touch of that and you'll get found out. Jimmy looked furious with a couple of those goals where people didn't track runners adequately. You've got to do the basics properly or you'll get beat. |

Sensible measured reaction. Only saw the first half and thought we looked decent. Southampton are a cut above most in this league and should finish top two. Two winnable home games coming up, then international break and hopefully Madsen and Burrell back. Shame to hear that Varane wasn't great today. This is his opportunity to prove he's got what it takes |

Went to an inter game a few years ago. Loads of food trucks outside the ground selling excellent sandwiches and beer. Cheap and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend. Not much in terms of food inside the ground although I seem to remember you can buy beer. |

I'm not sure Chair would be first choice any longer especially when we play 4-4-2. Would be great to have him available though. Dembele looked bang up for it when he came on yesterday. |

He's well and truly proved me wrong this season. I love him. Such a thorn in the opposition side. Constantly chipping away. A player making the absolute most of his ability and giving his all. Along with a few others, he sets the standard. Well done Paul. |

I've been well and truly blown away by Paul Smyth this season. He just looks so damn hungry. Constantly pissed off and at the opposition. A proper little bastard. Must be a nightmare to play against. Love him! |

We weren't all saying that. Some were. Some of us didn't lose our heads and put forward the case that this is a stronger squad with the best manager we've had for some time. If we lose next week against an in form Southampton, let's not sh*t the bed this time. |

A statement win. More or less perfection from every player. This team means business and we have a manager who knows what he's doing. Let's not let the occasional defeat rattle us. Get behind this team and we can go all the way.

The meltdown on here during the week was, in my opinion, OTT. Hopefully that 45 minutes can settle the nerves of a few of our more nervous supporters and we can get fully behind this squad and this manager. Best we've had in years. Let's not waste it by trying to find reasons to tear it all down. |

We could make a good profit on Edwards. Perhaps Burrell if he can stay injury free and start scoring again. Madsen may be a little too old for a big offer. I think he's 27/28. |

In terms of what would represent success and progress, we're on 17 points from 11 games. I'd like to think we could repeat that four times leaving us on 68 points from 44 games. Last season 70 got 6th place. I think therefore it's reasonable for us to think this team could make top 8 this year.
That being said, it's the championship and the wheels can come off very quickly. Serious failure would be relegation but I can't see that happening.
Just hoping we are in with a shout of top 8 going into the last few games. I've enjoyed the football so far this season. The injuries are definitely frustrating but I'm not going to lose my head just yet. Our squad runs deeper this year. |

I missed the bit about Dunne. If he's out on Saturday then our prospects don't look so good. Maybe Kemper can play left CB with Cirkin at LB which would mean we can keep Edwards in midfield. So many changes to a back four is unsettling though. |

If it's four home games, three of them are at home. That definitely helps. We can still put out a decent side just about

That should still be a competitive side capable of picking up some points in the next four games. Defensive unit is largely intact and our success this season has been built on a solid back line.
I wonder if Cirkin can play down the wing? |

This is bad news. If he's back after the international break, he misses four games. Presumably it's an opportunity for Varane who must be keen to prove himself or Alamayehu might get some minutes. Real test of character coming up after Mbengue's injury and now this. Let's see how they respond. The players who are fit and healthy will need the crowd behind them more than ever. |

Agreed. Time we just forgot about him and moved on. Guessing he has one more season after this under contract and hopefully he's on low wages as an unproven young player. |

I tend to agree with this. Clearly his studs got caught in the turf which lead to the injury. For me that's unlucky rather than a problem with the fitness and conditioning team.
On the strapping question, loads of players wear strapping on all sorts of parts of their bodies. I'm sure I read somewhere that there's no scientific evidence that it makes any difference. More of a placebo effect. Look how many players wear wrist tape. They're not all carrying wrist or hand injuries, they just like the way it feels or are following a fashion.
Obviously a bad injury. Hope it's something he can come back from as he's the right sort and he's clearly very well liked by his team mates. Get well soon Amadou. |
