Chance For Shrews Cup Game To Still Be Played ?
at 15:57 11 Jan 2021
Here is a little theory I heard that, depending on how the draw pans out tonight, there is a chance we still may have to play our 3rd Round Tie.
The FA announced earlier this week the next two rounds would be both drawn, one after the other, on Monday, during the BT Sport broadcast of Stockport’s clash with West Ham.
That ensures the FA will know the path the winners of the postponed tie face to get to the last eight of the cup.
And should the winners be drawn against none of the seven Premier League sides still in European competition in the next round, and also avoid a potential clash in the last 16, there could to be enough 'wriggle room' for rescheduling.
If Shrewsbury and Saints do come out of the hat with one of Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, the two Manchester giants or Tottenham, then Southampton seem certain to be handed a walkover.
What they fail to mention, is that we have games every weekend and midweek between now and the actual date of the 4th round, so what happens ? We play our 3rd round game on the 4th round weekend and see what happens, then try to sandwich everything thing in after that ?
It seems a lot more trouble than it is worth from a fixture perspective and we can't be sure when Shrews will be back and ready to play over the coming days or weeks anyway.
I think there is only 1 solution, but we shall see !!
Time For The FA To Step Up
at 14:57 2 Jan 2021
With so many Prem players breaking Covid rules of late, now is a perfect opportunity for the FA to step up and introduce tough measures.
Spurs - 3 players
West Ham - 1 player
Fulham - 1 player
Palace - 1 player
Plus all those others in the first lockdown, such as Kyle Walker, Mount, Rice, Zaha, Grealish, etc etc
If they take the hard line and impose bans and fines, it should make players think twice.
I reckon a 3 or 5 match ban, together with a £50,000 fine, would be a sufficient deterant.

Anyone heard any team news for this one ?
Obviously we will be without the suspended Romeu and probably will be missing Ings too, depending on how bad his hamstring tweak is. I would be inclined to rest him til the new year regardless.
If those 2 are missing, what will your starting XIs be ?

I also saw somewhere that the Fulham defender who got sent off last time out v Newcastle, has had his red card rescinded and is eligible to play against us. How does that work ? The ref gave it at the time, VAR confirmed it and yet they can still appeal and get it rescinded !! Sounds as bizarre as the Digne red that got reduced from a 3 game ban to just 1.
Obviously Lemina won't be able to play in this one, so perhaps they will replace him with our old mate Harry Reed.
Some Intersting Facts and Stats After Last Night !!

Brighton have gone 10 Premier League games without a win at home (D4 L6), their longest run without a victory on home soil in the league since a run of 12 in the fourth tier, ending in February 1998. HOWEVER - they have managed to win an EFL Cup Match at home during that run - a 4-0 win over Portsmouth !!
Southampton won a Monday Premier League game for the first time in 15 attempts (D7 L7).
Only Chelsea (eight) have scored more Premier League goals from set-piece situations (excl. pens) than Southampton this season (seven).
Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard has netted three goals in his past seven Premier League appearances, after managing just one in his previous 45.
James Ward-Prowse registered his 25th Premier League assist for Southampton, a haul bettered by only three players (Le Tissier 63, Tadic 27, Dodd 26).
Danny Ings is the first Southampton player to score in four consecutive away Premier League appearances since Rickie Lambert in January 2013.
Goal Of The Month For November
at 17:23 7 Dec 2020
Just flicked through a recording of MOTD2, whilst on a boring call and was rather pleased to see 2 nominations from Saints for GOTM.
1. JWP - his 2nd goal from a free kick v Villa
2. Ings - Saints' 4th goal v Villa
Voting took place during the programme and at the end, they announced that in...
3rd Place - A Fulham Player
2nd Place - JWP
1st Place - Danny Ings
Superb - and hopefully it will soon be announced that JWP wins POTM for November as well. Voting is still open for another 35 mins !!

Because the likes of Redmond and Ings have only recently resumed training, I very much doubt they will go straight into the starting line up tonight. I therefore expect us to announced an unchanged starting XI, but make a few changes to the bench.

FF, JS, Salisu, Diallo, Red, Ings, Long/N'Lundulu
