Another string in Bottomleys bow?

Adding to that….Oldham committed to a pre season Benidorm Bash involving a pre season game versus Castleford. Fans booked trips. All gone Ti**s up. Check the paperwork for his lordships fingerprints and wait for the tears.

Dont say you werent warned.

I am down in Brisbane with a mate from here. It was quite emotional seeing him finally get that monkey of his back and the response was truly humbling…the entire ground erupted. I think everyone in the ground was willing him on for those last few runs, (unless David Warner was somewhere in the crowd).

The aussies, being the aussies, were not going to make those last few runs easy and when they brought Starc back on the jitters came back….for me but not for Joe.

it was an honour to be present …well done Joe…you did it were it counts most.

As head commercial honcho at Oldham rugby it looks like his fingerprints are all over the season ticket fiasco at Oldham rugby.

After selling season tickets for next year they then announce they will be switching from playing home games on sundays to playing on Friday nights.

There has been a massive backlash from the fans, with lots being unable to go on Fridays. The Chairman has now had to come out and offer those who have purchased season tickets an equivalent value flex pack and also switching some games back to sunday.

The chairman cannot say he wasnt warned.

Indeed…a great player of fast bowling without the need to throw his wicket away.

He struggled with mental health issues post retirement. I hope they were not linked to his passing.

I expect there will be a moments silence and black armbands at The Gabba.

And the possibility of another home game should they reach the third round of the challenge cup…they play away to an amateur team in round 2.

They have no idea about building an innings…they play 2020 shots from the start and after an impressive performance by the bowlers in the first innings they decide to bowl short in the second when Australia needed the highest total of the match at a ground where the team batting second had never won.

Id say crap preparation leads to crap cricket.

More garbage 20/20 batting and another sub 40 over inning.

This is not test cricket.

We can still make a judgement on some of those awful shots that led to loss of wickets….without them we might have been looking at a big 1st innings lead.

I wont make a judgement on the result though….not while stokes still has a large supply of magic dust ( as oppossed to Athertons dirt and Smiths sandpaper)

Well that went well...couidnt last 40 overs...throwing the bat like it was a run chase.

7 wickets for the old man.

So who will they be embarrassed by this time...cape verde or curacao?

It would be nice to see them perform well at a tournament for once.

It would be good to know how that money is distributed and in particular how much we get. If its (close to) an equal distribution among participating clubs or if its weighted towards progress and winners.

Obviously we arent taking any money at the gate...though we might be making a bit off food/drink. With increased attendence from free admission we might be paying out more in game day staff maybe.

Then there is the toll on the much maligned pitch and risk of injuries.

If the financial benefits are substantial (50k or more?) I wouldnt expect clubs to be ducking out of it.

Last sentence not true. In the 1970s the club was known for not paying some of its suppliers in full.

Meanwhile the Ashes ‘preparation’ struggles to keep its head above water in NZ. All predictable given the unusually early start to the international season in NZ.

Compare this year to the 2010-11 ashes campaign were everything was organised around bringing home the urn, including two four day games against strong aussie competition.

With four weeks to go to the first test We look to be going into this campaign very much under done and hoping that injuries will upset the convicts fast bowling stocks. Never been a problem for them before…they just call up another gem from the sheffield shield ranks. And their batsmen getting plenty of four day cricket competitive cricket in the lead up.

I suppose everything is unconventional under the current régime. We will soon find out if it works for an overseas ashes.
