I thought Brown did well considering the lack of service and he made our 2nd goal - sadly Mani has been a lost soul this season so he's not the solution |

Accepting that Vale might have eased off 2nd half we did win it 2-1 so I agree with our players the formation seems to offer more control (under any manager)
Maybe look to stay in the game for the first hour and potentially then tweak the formation and bring on wingers?
Having seen 442s post - of course IW's recruitment choices don't help this formation change (or anything else it seems) but perhaps this suggestion makes the best of them - at least with the currently available players [Post edited 31 Oct 15:02]

Perhaps set up with a formation, personnel and tactic to control the game more - aim not to lose as a start? Earn the right to play and rebuild confidence. |

Yes, as others have said, the lack of energy, decisiveness or any plan B from the dugout is the most worrying long term. Accy's formation stopped our wingers effecting the game, put pressure on our 'vulnerable' FBs and bypassed our M/F from minute 1. We decided to match their formation in the 70th minute at 0-5 down. |

Partly down to TAR (another injury?) being replaced by Taylor at LB which he isn't and it meant moving Tasker to his less effective side - should have been Beckwith @ LB from HT.
Frenetic first half although Grimsby looked strongest to me and we were dead and buried @ 1-2 until Hendo's (& Hannant's) cameos.
As others have said we lost out in midfield even with 3 which needs solving & I don't see Petit as the solution. Agree though It is the way we play so we're in for a rollercoaster season and with the table so congested safety is a long way away. [Post edited 20 Oct 22:08]

Agree about Tasker (class) & Wilson (if he gets his head up for the pass after the driving run) but Sherring lost half a dozen headers which is worrying for a CB. But yes, whilst EFL2 is more physical than NL, the technical side is surprisingly ordinary ... so far! |

and to Bilongo, Jenkins, Ramming, Maguire - arguably Moss is the biggest loss plus Rodney, Smith, Hayes just coming back. Not sure about no luck - certainly had it against OIdham.
Yours is a fair reflection of Saturday - definitely our best performance; Flint immense, Middleton effective at both ends, Brown worked hard and took his goal well, Wilson's best game to date (with Flint's help), Adeeko, Taylor & Gilmour solid (& TAR ... till the silly 2nd yellow), Waller a real challenger to Ramming. Not convinced by Smith yet but I thought Tasker had a good game - he won some duels, drives forward well and his positioning will improve.
But as you say there is a strong need for an option that strengthens midfield; some of the recruitment still seems confused (too many wingers & Academy players, no LBs) & above all scrapping a successful squad and formation before trying it.
Definitely going in the right direction.
ps the 1100 Dale fans were superb - our songs rang out loud and proud [Post edited 27 Sep 14:13]

But, whilst there were improvements (formation with 2*10s & Gilmour sitting) on another day we lose that 2-3.
Ramming is bad for my cholesterol & I'd have swopped Wilson & Moss. Thought Brown pressed hard and made some good breaks (more than Diesuruvwe) and Middleton with effective crosses all game & some good covering of Moss. Adeeko & Taylor seem a good partnership - Adeeko was excellent again & Gilmour had his most effective game this season.,
Thought Smith less so and seemed to be complaining a lot. Flint (after 4 misplaced passes/headers) grew into the game but big congratulations to Tasker (bar one failed dribble) - defended strongly, confident and made some good forward runs.
Subs wee well timed though I'd have changed Smith at HT. Agree that Oldham ran out of ideas & surprisingly we looked stronger in the 2nd half
