Shout out to Merthyr Town
at 20:43 12 May 2024

Merthyr are one of the most famous non league clubs in England and Wales.
Can't be arsed to recheck, I'm sure Merthyr won the most Southern League titles alongside Southampton, when the Swans were champions winning their league title they played Merthyr in the Welsh cup final, when Merthyr were super strong, 35,000 crowd, Merthyr hammered the Swans.
I watched Merthyr as a boy in the early 70s play if i remember correctly Derby, Wolves, Chelsea, Spurs in pre season friendlies.
Merthyr beat/drew with Red Star Belgrade the season they won the European Cup, John Charles even played for Merthyr, Im not spending time checking because there are donuts on this site so I'm not wasting my time but something tells me Merthyr beat the Swans 3-0 at the Vetch and Cardiff 4-0 at Ninian Park in one of the more recent Welsh cups that the Swans were in.
They should have been elected to the football league in the 50s, they had a chance in the early days of the Conference, I remember them being 3rd or 4th with lots of ex football league players in their side (a few ex Swansea and Cardiff players).

The roads links make it easier for the Ingerlunders to get to North Wales than it does for Welshies from South Wales, 4 hours in the saddle from West Wales, yet you could get to Snowdonia from Yorkshire in not far off half that time.

If you was talking about me I was there, the 100 mile and 100k Snowdon ultras, 55k and 25k Snowdon trail runs as well the roc were all on at the same time, I was in the Cwellyn Arms in Rhyd Ddu near basecamp for Snowdon last night, Beddgelert is only 3 or 4 miles from the pub, the Watkin path was not far away either, the top ones in the roc were doing it in just over 4 1/2 hrs, there was some women doing 5 hrs odd, incredible, the top ones bikes seemed to have solid back wheels, i bet they were worth a bit, the ultras were talking over 24hrs and running over night in darkness with head torches on, mad.
I stayed on a mountainside overlooking Snowdon, plenty of 'white eagles' painted on the rocks around there and I seen a makeshift sign only a few hundred yards from where i was staying placed on one of the many derelict slate miners cottages telling certain people not to buy such culturally important properties.
Could see the coast from where I was, don't know if it was Abersoch or somewhere else on the Llyn, too many from the other side of the Dyke for me to go there so I stayed in the mountains.

Gerwyn Price evens instead of 4/9 tonight to get 3+ 180s and a 100+ checkout, I'm not fussed on two or three parts to come in for a winning bet prefer just one outcome and I would think it would not be possible to bet on it not happening to guarantee a return, it's one of those you either do it or you don't.

Away from match betting/arbs/enhanced odds, Girona are playing tonight and seem a reasonable price - hmm do bookies know something, if Girona win they go top of La Liga.

Most people were eligible for legal aid after it was created as an integral part of the welfare state just after the war, now hardly anybody is eligible for it meaning justice is the preserve of the rich.

Thousands of English people get treated every year in Wales, now England put their prices up/refuse to treat Welsh people all the time, you don't hear of the Welsh doing that the other way around although I'm sure they would have too, there are so many old English people in Welsh hospitals etc it is costing the Welsh NHS a fortune.

National lockdowns in Wales, but not in England at certain times, i seen figures for one of the covid years and that particular year Wales had 7 days more of lockdowns than England did. Nightclubs shut in Wales, not in England, restrictions on the number of people indoors in certain situations in Wales not the same in England.

Based on Dr Jack been told just before the Marciano fight that Marciano had knocked out his last six opponents then it's a reasonable assumption to assume that Marciano had at least 6 fights as a minimum probably a lot more than that and if its right about Dr Jack based on what I read over the years about Dr Jack lack of boxing then Marciano was more experienced boxer when they fought.

The story of a Welsh rugby great fighting somebody that went on to be a boxing great is another feather in the cap of Dr Jack, they were representing their 'services' in a wartime bout, Dr Jack was from down the road, an athletics champion and a rugby player, Yanks only in the main played 'rugby' with helmets and pads, so fair play to Marciano for giving it a go, if Dr Jack didn't know what he was facing then no doubt Marciano didn't either.

Calzaghe unlike Marciano had a top amateur record, Calzaghe was virtually unbeatable his whole boxing career, Calzaghe was incredible.

The Welsh covid restrictions were more stringent designed to save lives, English restrictions were less stringent, if they die they die sort of attitude by the powers that be in England which we now know came from the top.
A polling company asked Welsh people if they were happy with Welsh Government COVID policy compared to England and Welsh people were happy, the same polling company asked English people if they were happy with their COVID measures compared to measures in Wales and the English were split a lot them would have preferred to have had Welsh covid measures in place in England.

You would have liked the story I seen last night (I think it was the one that mentioned the kitchen but not sure as I seen a few stories about Marciano), i think it was somebody interviewing him on one of his visits to Swansea (many visits I think), pictures of old Swansea, Mumbles, Gower, he asked if the Mumbles railway was still going and there was pics of beaches down there that the GI went, Shops, pubs, cafes in Swansea, i think it said the he used to get cockles from Swansea market, i was more interested in any mention of his boxing back then but knew you would like the human story and old pics of Swansea and surrounds, he seem to love the area, he would walk around dressed normally and nobody would bother him, locals probably thought he was nothing special and that loads of rugby boys could give him a beating, lol, like Dr Jack.

I don't think there are official records of fights for Rocky or others in the services wartime, for some reason I'm unable to copy and paste 'drive' not working on my phone, I seen the kitchen story last night and I'm sure that was somebody that knew him or him being interviewed, I've seen it again this morning a different article saying about the kitchen and a bit more detail about Rocky's early fights, trying out for the Olympics and the name of a guy that beat him in the amateurs.

Rocky started boxing in the forces he won the 1946 Amateur Armed Forces boxing tournament, he had his first pro fight in 1947.
Inter services matches etc during the war were proper bouts in a ring with gloves but unofficial, almost certainly no judges just a ref.
Rocky took up boxing to avoid having to work in the military kitchens, so how did that work if he was not training and having fights, he would not have got away with ducking his duties if he was not boxing training.

The Israeli IDF have apparently killed 3 of their own waving a white flag/hankie on a stick today, they are not very interested if people are civilians or come to that women or children.
