Steven Gerrard Emerges As Favourite For Southampton Job
at 11:54:23

I would prefer a previously successfull manager at Championship level. Scott Parker or Chris Wilder fit that bill ok. I would point out that before Steven Gerrard went to Rangers he was in charge of the Liverpool youngsters so a little experience of improving young players. I haven't checked too deeply but possibly Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot were under him for a while?

Hughes Not Quite Favourite For The Sack
at 12:21:20

Whilst I agree with a lot of the post by underweststand, Jack Charlton did pretty well as a manager who won the World Cup in 1966.

Marco Silva Early Favourite To Replace Pellegrino
at 00:30:00

Mark Hughes for me. Experienced manager. Enough rep as a player to get respect from the players. And wouldn't take lip from the players. Old enough to not have a career ruined by a relegation. Also a cv not to be ruined by a relegation caused by only 8 games to achieve the impossible.

Van Dijk Not Worried About Boo Boys
at 19:17:51

Does anyone remember the game with Blackburn in the 70s with John Bailey getting enormous stick? About the only time I remember teams getting put off by the crowd. It was the return game and Osgood and Williams were sent off in the away game.

Saints V Brighton The Verdict
at 11:45:00

It looks to me as if MP has lost some of the dressing room. Boufal, Lemina and Gabbiadini on the bench and not looking a bit interested if/when they come on. Also Redmond totally missing again (not missed though). We can only stay up if 3 teams manage to be worse than us.

March Media Madness

To be fair, Man City are buying half the Spurs team as well as Virgil, whilst there is an expected exodus at Arsenal so it is not only us. It would be nice to have a quiet summer though.

Saints V Norwich City The Verdict
at 14:31:43

A terrible game, dire doesn't really cover it. Probably about 10000 people were relieved at not having to endure an extra 30 minutes as people had left in droves. How many people would have been watching penalties if it had come to that?? I don't foresee a big crowd for Arsenal as there is a full league program the next week, Swansea (a) on Tuesday so 2 more reserve sides competing in the FA Cup.

Italian Media Rumours Say Pelle To Juventus Move Is Imminent
at 00:07:12

I wouldn't want Pelle to go in this window. He has been good for most of the season whilst he was fit. Jay Rodriguez has shown no sign of getting back to match fitness, not even to the performance level of his first season when he was a great disappointment! We would be taking a huge risk of being really short upfront.

Chambers To Return To Saints On Loan In January !
at 21:33:40

Not sure about this. He has always said in interviews that it was a great move to go to Arsenal and how it was better for his career even though he had only played 20-25 games for us. How much effort will he put in for us? I'd rather use one of the kids out on loan so recall them. Let him rot in Arsenal reserves.

Saints V Leicester City The Verdict

Agree with Dr Saints. Not even sure about the free kicks. What has happened to Harri Reed? If Romeu couldn't be brought on because he was needed for Liverpool next week, why was he on the bench? Bringing Clasie on in a situation that was not right for him has now put more pressure on him to perform.

Saints To Give Matchday Magazine Away Free Again On Thursday

I didn't get one at the Vitesse Arnhem game. The shambles outside meant that we were late getting in and all the giver-aways had gone. Is it any good?

Saints V Everton The Verdict
at 10:52:57

The defence is also being exposed by the lack of midfield. Saints are trying to play 4-2-4 and it isn't working. If the opposition plays 4-5-1 we are being overrun and all those forwards are not contributing much. The introduction of Romeu made a difference but by then it was too late.

Do Saints Have A Big Signing Up Their Sleeve ?
at 11:36:47

I would agree with SaintDownUnder. When Pelle's goals dried up we struggled. Unless we are going to play JRod up front, I would try and get Charlie Austin. As well as Van Dijk. There should be plenty in the kitty after last summer's sales, Morgan, Nat & Jack Cork.

Saints V Swansea City The Verdict
at 17:15:17

I felt that we were undone by the substitution of Harrison Reed by Sadio Mane. From that moment we lost control of midfield and Shelvey started to look good. Tadic should have gone off instead. He was better than most of his recent performances in the first half but his second half was awful. Mind you, we should have scored enough times for it not to matter but tickets & raffles!

Spurs To Come In For Lovren ?
at 16:44:05

Man Utd have supposedly got to £34 million for Luke and £40 mill is being stated. The papers have us demanding £30 mill for Lallana. Saints have actually said nothing official as yet so we unable to determine whether these figures have been invented by the media. God forbid. But how is Lovren only worth £15 million in a market as per the other two. Surely that offer will be bounced straight away.

Saints Have Held Firm
at 14:32:53

The story about Luke Shaw supposedly asking to leave dates back to the last day of the season. Nothing new. Whilst I think that Luke and Adam will probably leave, we should still hold firm as long as possible. We should try and persuade them to stay and if they are still set on leaving, make them ask for a transfer to lose 'loyalty' payments. And of course, ask for our idea of the fee not the Daily Mail's or Liverpool's / Man Utd's reduced version. How much would Barkley / Baines at Everton or Wilshire / Oxlade-Chamberlain at Arsenal cost?
