Refwatch Preview: Port Vale (a) Wednesday, 5th Aug 2009 06:57 2009-10 is almost upon us right now, and we kick off the build up to this weekend's game with Port Vale by taking our usual pre-match look at the official in charge of the game. The opening game of the season usually sees a referee in his first season taking charge of one of our matches and on Saturday we have the pleasure of Sheffield-based official Jock Waugh.
Waugh ended last season refereeing Torquay’s play-off game at home to Histon, but most of his games in 2008/09 appear to be at levels below the Blue Square Premier League.
A bit of research reveals that Mr Waugh is a member of a Sheffield-based band called Meek Joe (link here), although he actually originates from Glasgow, which was probably obvious from his name!
He was also one of the linesmen when Dale went down 2-0 to Darlington in the live Sky match at Spotland in April.
