Roberto says he is shocked to have heard the news about Darren Way's car crash

The former Swansea City midfielder was involved in an accident on Wednesday afternoon and is currently in hospital under treatment for his injuries.

A statement from Yeovil manager Russell Slade on their website said "Darren was pleased to see me but obviously not in a good way. His parents and wife were also with him, as they have been since the accident.

"I would like to point out that contrary to reports on the Swansea web site Darren has not broken both his arms and both his legs.

"Doctors are still assessing his injuries to one leg and one arm and we will report further as he progresses."

His former manager at Swansea, Roberto Martinez said upon hearing of the accident “It was a huge shock for us, and all we’ve done since is hope to hear as much good news as possible.

“A lot of the squad are very concerned for him and have been in touch with his family to try and see how he is doing.

“When you hear something like that it worries you and it puts things in perspective.

“He had terrible luck with injuries here but it looked as though he was enjoying his football at Yeovil and then something like this happens.

“We just hope that everything will be fine with him.

“He is a special character; off the pitch he was so lively and had time for everyone.

“He always had a smile even when things didn’t go well for him – he has may friends here and we just hope he can get through this.

“But Darren is a huge fighter and a winner and I am sure because of that he will be fine.”
