Jaidi On Our Radar
Jaidi On Our Radar

Alan Pardew seems set to sign another defender today.

Radhi Jaidi looks set to join Saints from Birmingham City on a free transfer, the Tunisian has been released by City on their return to the Premiership presuambly as age catches up with him as he turns 34 on the 30th of this month.

Jaidi has spent three years at St Andrews, in his first season he was a regular in the side as Birmingham went up to the premiership in 2006/07, in their relegation season from the top flight he played about half of the games and last season was   first choice for the Blues, playing 30 league games after returning to the side in late September.

Prior to that he joined Bolton in 2004, highly rated by Sam Allardyce, who described him as a supreme header of the ball, he again played about half the games available.

Strangely in these modern times joining Saints would be only his fourth professional club, prior to his two in England, he had spent all his career with Esperance Sportive De Tunis who were Tunisian Champions when he went to the Reebok in 2004, becoming the first Tunisian player to join a Premier league club.

So if Jaidi does put pen to paper on the proposed one year deal with an option for a further 12 months, he seems to tick all the boxes, big, strong, experienced and by the looks of it loyal.
