Simpson gets first QPR appointment — referee
Monday, 5th Aug 2013 14:27 by Clive Whittingham

Jeremy Simpson, a relative newcomer to the league refereeing list, is the man in the middle as QPR travel to Exeter in the League Cup on Tuesday evening.

Referee >>> Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire)

Assistants >>> Adam Nunn (Wiltshire) and Chris Powell (Dorset)

Fourth Official >>> Kevin Johnson (Somerset)

Previously

This is the first QPR appointment for Simpson, who is in only his second full season on the league list.

Stats

Simpson had the odd League Two game in 2011/12 but joined the league list full time in 2012/13. He refereed 26 games across the bottom two divisions, with one Championship appointment at Middlesbrough v Barnsley, showing 81 yellows and five red cards in the process — 3.11 bookings a game on average. His biggest haul in a single match was seven yellows at Oldham v Yeovil right at the end of the season but he started with a bang on Saturday, booking four and sending one off as Orient won 5-1 at Carlisle.

Exeter fans will have fond memories of this official. Twice he refereed them in away games last season, twice he sent players off from their opponents, and twice they emerged victorious. At Oxford in September they won 4-2 with two goals from Jamie Cureton and James Constable was sent off for the hosts, and then at Rochdale in December they won 3-2 with Terry Gornell sent off in injury time.

Other Listings

League Cup >>> A massive round of fixtures such as the League Cup first round means all referees to the pumps, and gives us a good chance to see which of our old foes are still in action this season. Andy Hall mercifully seems to have vanished but Trevor Kettle sadly remains and he has Colchester v Peterborough. Young Gavin Ward isn’t going anywhere anytime soon of course and he has Stevenage v Ipswich.
